LOVE the black and whites!
I have His Girl Friday, My Man Godfrey, and just recently purchased a few Shirley Temples, although they are on VHS.
I am now up to 946 movies in my collection, my kids think I am a freak show and love to show and tell to their friends. I can't wait till their birthday next year, I have a ton of bath photos that I would love to share!!! angel_not.gif

Good day everyone!!
It has been a long while since I was last here. I guess that's what happens when you have too many jobs and just enough kids.... wink.gif
I would just like to say hello again to those I once knew, and greetings to those I am now meeting.

Take care all

Hello all!

I like this topic. Very interesting to hear the responses.
I have always used the name Tara. That is the 'nickname' people came up with instead of using my real name. But for the last 5 years, I have taken back my real name, Therasa, and the initial for my middle name K. (used to think this was the dorkiest name on the earth-Therasa Karoline LOL) Not many people even know it's me when I use the name. Most friends thought Tara was my name. So, when I sign I TherasaK.

Hello all!!
Very sorry for being away so long. Many things going on here.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I am extremely pleased with all the replies on this topic. I had no idea the responses I would get. I think though, that the most popular has to be that poetry is a way of venting, especially for those of us who don't confront in our lives. It's a way of letting it all out without the backlash.

I also have to add, that now I will be doing some cd shopping come payday. There are some really great suggestions in here.

Thanks all
Take care and stay safe biggrin.gif

I know I am still pretty new here. I want to say hello to those of you who joined around the same time as me, and to those who have joined after. Along with many others, I must say that this is the friendliest site I have ever found. You will neither feel stupid, or left out. You are always welcome, and kept in the circle of friends. You are never alone. So enjoy and have fun like myself and the others.

Are you ready for another long winded answer? Sorry angel_not.gif

Fears I have plenty of. I used to swim all the time, loved it. Was on a team and everything. Swam in lakes pools wherever. Now, not bloody likely! I refuse to swim. Especially in 'open' water. Both sons take lessons, that is one thing I demand. If we go to the lake or the pool, then they will know how to swim properly.

Bugs....pretty much any kind of bug you can name. If there has been a bug in my room, even though it has been killed, I refuse to go back in until the room has been bleached from top to bottom. If there was a bug and we lost sight of it, I will not sleep until it is found and squished. Don't know where this came from, I used to be a tom boy.

Dark, I cannot sleep in total dark. I cannot walk outside in the total dark, nothing. Never used to be like that.

I worry that people are always watching and judging me. I worry that my family judges me. Especially after the boys were born. I think they watch to see if I am doing well or not with them.

I also fear outliving them. I fear them dying. I hate when they go to someone else's home. I may know the parent, but if you aren't watching for that one second....

Animals, bears, cougars, raccoons. The three I fear the most. Nice range of sizes eh? I fear bears, because for one their size. Obvisously. But I fear them because when they are in the yard, they are hungry. That's why they're done here. Same as Cougars. Raccoons.....they're just crazy little boobs. I also don't know when this started. I used to love all animals. I 'get along' with pretty much any animal I meet. Horses especially. (I posted in the fave horse post why) Dogs, same thing, I get along with all the one's I've met. Even a few that I was told don't like anyone but their owners.

I fear man above all else, be it bug, water, death, or animals. Man is unpredictable, vicious, and cunning above all others. (no man in particular.... biggrin.gif )

Sorry for the length of the post. I think I got it all in here. LOL wink.gif

Richard-

I'm not too sure about deja-vu either. I have this at least once a week. In the store the other day, there was an older woman.(80's) and she was walking towards the check out. I saw her drop her bag from another store. But she didn't notice. One of my boys picked it up and ran to her. I Know I have seen this. I know it never happened before. So I don't know what to think.(other than proud he gave it to her and didn' pilpher it. is that spelled right?)

I was talking to my sister about dreams a while ago. She told me she rarely remembers a dream. She doesn't think she even has them. I on the other hand can honestly say I remember at least 90% of my dreams. I write them down all the time.

What do you think about controlling dreams? It may seem odd, but when I go to bed, I have my cd's set up in order. I listen to certain things to dream a certain way. I have even had dreams that continue from a previous night. I actually use my dreams to write.

I know...... wink.gif I'm odd.

Ah yes, he was at the premier. I knew there was a reason. Oops... tongue.gif But alot of people wear the kilts now. I just don't like it. I think it's better on a scot that not. wink.gif

I think that some people do make a big issue of 'being' Scot when they really aren't. I have 'heard' people on other sites who talk all about themselves and their family and such. But they weren't born there. The last person in their family to be born there was at least three generations back. I think pride in heritage is just fine. I have that. But I will never claim something that is not my birth right. Scottish is not the only thing I am looking up. I have family from Ireland, Austria, Ukraine, and alot more. I merely want to see where they lived. See how they lived, and not forget them.

I really need to sell this soap box. rolleyes.gif

I agree that christmas is now just another reason to spend money you don't have, on toys that will either be broken in a day, or forgotten in two. So, both sons and I have started to make, rather than buy, presents. I do alot of cross stitch, so I make pictures for people. Together the boys and I this year, are making magnets from salt dough. We bought some unfinished wood items this year. Mirrors, plaques, tree ornaments, and so on. We will paint them with something special for each person. When we buy things, we will buy what that person wouldn't buy for themselves. I'm quite a tool though, I buy all the pets something. Huge bones for the dogs, and catnip for the cats. Although Murphy (eldest dog) loves the catnip. He steals it and runs. LOL

I think people just need to take their time and look around them. Not try and out do the next parent or family in what they buy. That gets old real fast. People now adays, want the homemade things. It's more special, you took the time and effort to make something just for them. It's original. I love that more.

Rose-

You are too adorable. tongue.gif It is hard to decide though isn't it? I have been thinking about which to pick also. And have had the same worries, if I pick one, will anyone be upset because I am not from Scotland? But then I think, my family is definately from there. And on and on. lol

Arianrhod, I agree about the other boards. You have to watch your step alot of the time. You can get into trouble very easily, and it makes no difference if it was and oops or the fact that there were no guidelines. (chatting blindly.... cool.gif )

I think the mods here are great also, helpful and understanding. I can't see that what you choose will upset them in any way. I think the only thing that would upset would be an exageration of connection, making yourself sound more than you are, I guess misleading is the better word.

Did any of that make sense? I'm ranting again... taz.gif

Hello Wyld Piper,

Nice to meet you. I hope you are enjoying this site as much as I am. It is great in here. Any questions you may have, someone in here will most likely have an answer, or at least an idea.

I hope to see you around and get a chance to chat.

Hello all-

Rose-
I have seen mystic pizza, that was a great little movie. Elizabeth, bought it. I loved that one. What about Shakespear in love, it was just adorable. The last of the mohicans, I believe my sister has that one. I haven't seen it yet though. Maybe I should take back all her other movies and borrow that one.

The patriot, I loved it!
Has anyone seen Biloxi blues? Matthew Broderick was the best in that movie. And I also loved him in Ferris Buellers day off. That was one of the funniest movies ever.
I just went and bought myself and the kids some of the christmas standards the other day-White christmas
Rudolph
(goodlord, lost the name of the movie, the one with Jimmy Stewart in it, the angel..... wink.gif )
Another one I LOVE to kill a mockingbird. I watched in school as an english assignment and loved it ever since.

Take care all

biggrin.gif I figured I had better come in here and introduce myself. I just jumped in with both feet. Sorry... rolleyes.gif

I tend to do that.

I guess I shall start with, My name is Therasa ( Ter A sa) does that nake any sense? I am a single mother of twin ten year olds. And I am from British Columbia Canada. I found this site purely by accident. (best accident yet) I have been researching my familes origins for some time now. (I've been pretty lucky so far I might add. Found some really helpful people around).

Coates (the first person I found left Scotland in 1740)
Menzies (my gr gran left in the early 1900, have clan Menzie)
Murdoch ( need to check more to make sure accurate info)
Oliver (associated with Fraser, so far)

I had found Electric Scotland, and I found it a pretty good site. But Ihad some doubts as to the accuracy of some of the info. I came in here, and got the same response from a few people about the site. (nothing against ES, I like it there, just gotta check the info)

I love it in here. I have found this to be the best site so far as people and kindness, as well as info goes. Asking a question, no matter how silly I think it may be, is met with honesty and kindness. The suggestions and help are outstanding.

I have already met a few of you to date. And could not of imagined nicer more helpful people. (Rose and Richard to name just two) I can't wait to meet more of you and have a chat.

I had better go now. I tend to babble.

Take care all and stay safe. punk.gif

Arianrhod-

I totally agree with you. I can't understand why parents want to squash their kids dreams before they even begin. I don't think it's fair at all. Like I stated before. My kids know it is not a man coming down the chimney, but they feeling, acting and caring that all goes with it. They like the idea of being a 'santa' for other kids less fortunate.

I was wondering- do or has anyone here ever filled those shoe boxes for the third worl countries at christmas? Or any other type of charity? We actually had my son Mathews' school do this. Morgans' school does the drop off box for food.

Shadows- I keep trying to sell, no takers though. I have resorted to freebies. My sis still says no. tongue.gif

Tartangal- my sister can't have kids either. She actually had to get the operation done so there is no accidents. I can't even spell what it is she has. But basically she is 4'1'' and weighs only 65lbs. She also had an operation on her legs when she was born. Her knee caps were in the back of her legs, so they bend the opposite way they should of. (my kids weigh 80lbs and the other is at 78lbs. they are also taller: 4'6'' and 4'7 1/2''.) She borrows my kids when she feels motherish. It was quite a site to see her pushing a double stroller when the boys were smaller.

Cailiosa-

Thank you so much for putting the web page, rootsweb here. I think it will not only help out myself, but alot of others as well. I appreciate it, I think everyone else does too.

As far as lineage, thank goodness I am not alone. I totally agree that you need both names. Your mothers family does not disappear only because she married. Good lord, it took both to get you here. I think both are important, I mean if you look at yourself and you mother and her family, I'm sure you have some of her traits. So it only makes sense to 'find' both. I think though, that alot of you are having the same trouble as I am. Not only do nicknames affect your efforts, but the fact that the mothers family name(s) have been lost in the past. Not very many people kept really good records.

Take care all. And good luck to everyone in their searches.
