..of the Iceni tribe of the East Anglia region of england. She led a revolt against the romans. I've always found this story intriguing, just as all strong historical female charatcers have (such as grace o' malley). Well, now Mel Gibson will be producing a film set for 2006 called 'Warrior' about Boudicca herself. I'm pretty excited about it, I mean...some of the things in Braveheart were historically inaccurate (like the whole princess isabelle affair) but it was still a really excellant movie. If anyone wants to monitor the progress of this film, here's the imdb info: http://imdb.com/title/tt0409457/
(speaking on imdb, on a totally random side note, 'Beowulf' is finally getting made into a real feature film if anyone's interested..http://imdb.com/title/tt0402057/)

If we could just stand here, without the words, would that be enough? ..Look at the sky now. What color is it? Or the way a hawk flies. Or you wake up and your ribs are bruised thinking so hard on somebody. What do you call that?

Oh, that worries me. For two reasons. 1) because Mel Gibson is doing it( I like Mel, but he tends to embelish too much for m'liking) 2) the lack of solid Historical facts about her. There is just so little information about her! I would love to see a film done about the battles, and almost defeating the Romans. That would be Great! But, I am sure there will OF COURSE be some fake love interest etc....which will ruin the film....

I saw the BBC's version of Boudicea (as they spelled it) with Alex Kingston. She plays Dr. Corday on ER. Her performance was just flat. Maybe it's because I couldn't get over her as Corday, and kept picturing a scalpel in her hand instead of a sword, but she wasn't that great.
Hopefully they'll get an actress with the appropriate accent, rather than forcing a fake one (i.e. Kevin Costner and Robin Hood).
Maybe Maria Doyle Kennedy of The Commitments? ;-)

Yes!!! This is excellent. I have waited a long time to see a good portrayal of the Boudicca story. I sincerely hope that Gibson chooses a Brit to play the part and not some American actress. The redhead from Cracker would be a great choice, or the one who played Murron in Braveheart. I know a lot of the movie will be made up as there are not a lot of facts about her, but still great to keep her story alive! I am impressed with the topics Mel has been taking on in his career. We need more movie makers like him to preserve our history.
