QUOTE (Rindy @ 19-Jun-2008, 10:01 PM) | maisky how are you doing? I found out that the quarterback of my favorite football team has type 1 diabetes. "better late than never lol" Any type of this disease is so very dangerous.
Patch- thanks for all of this interesting information..hope you doing well.
I was doing some reading on the subject and this helped me to figure out the difference between the two of them. Let us know how your doing.
Type II diabetes, often brought on by poor nutrition or obesity and involves a breakdown in the body's ability to process the insulin it makes. For that reason, improved diet and exercise can often improve the condition and lead to the reduction or elimination of the need for insulin injections.
Type I is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks itself and destroys its insulin-making cells. There is no behavior that "causes" it; doctors believe it is a genetic condition often triggered by an environmental stress, such as a virus. It is more typically diagnosed in childhood but in recent years it has become increasingly common for people age 25 or older to become symptomatic. Those who suffer from Type I are completely insulin dependent, and there is nothing that can be done to change that fact.
Slainte |
Great Info Rindy! I was diagnosed type 1 in 1973 and just FYI, they change their mind about some of these things every few years it seems, for example the cause for type 1 or Type 2 or modify statements like for example, Type 2 diabetes perhaps is understood better today as being a result of insulin resistance (which can and does happen to people who eat healthy diets and are not obese) That is not to say that those 2 factors are not contributors, but Type 2 is not being totally blamed on those factors due to the increase in people who do not have them. Obesity and poor nutrition can also cause insulin resistence in type 1 diabetics as well. You will find that regular activity or mild exercise can play a great part in increasing insulin sensitivity. Also intake of dark green vegetables (because of their magnesium content) can play a part as well The current thought on Type 1 diabetes is that a virus is involved that gives serious flu like symptoms as much as 2 years before the Beta Cells in the pancreas actually loose the war and quit making insulin Also, I am not trying to be a know it all but I have simply been dealing with this a long time and I know one thing that you can count on is for the information to be modified...... and this is a good thing..... in most cases So,,,, I hope that whatever I just wrote is helpful to someone (grin) Slainte Michael |

QUOTE (A Shrule Egan @ 25-Nov-2007, 12:16 PM) | QUOTE (Irish Stepper @ 23-Nov-2007, 11:40 PM) | Hey Egan...you'll owe me a ride on that scenic route after we're done with all that painting. Just make sure the fridge works and is stocked before Hubby and I show up!
|
Your on, Shelly!! I'm pumped up to take the Harley on those roads myself. We just need to get Raven to buy a bike. Peckery can bring his Harley down and Annabelle will have her Harley there. Then we can all go out for a cruise through the mountains. Painting can wait, if everyone has a bike or seat to sit on Now, you need to work on George to get his license and a bike. Don't ever worry about the beer fridge being empty. That will never happen. |
Hey Shrule a couple of things #1 Peckary owns the same kind of bike that I do (sans motor) #2 I have 5 bikes #3 he is a much bettter painter than I so I should just serve the beverages (grin) Michael |

taking a long slug of his whiskey and then swiping the excess off his beak with the back of his wing, the old bird glares at the juggler and thinks "good thing he's only getting root beer, I'd hate to see the mess otherwise"
"So it's music you want yon lady, well warm up that whistle and lets have a go", he caws, while motioning to Hamm for the old guitar that is stowed behind the bar.
He strikes up a lively jig and dances on the bar in time while playing the melody rythym mix |

That spell editing can be annoying Oldie!
I for one can not wait for $6 a gallon gasoline since it will help me pay for my new bicycle faster, right now I am only saving $5 a day by bicycle commuting but $10 a day would ad up real fast and I could get that new Carbon fiber frame that I am dying for

Raven awakes sputtering realizing that he must have fallen asleep with his beak in his whiskey.
Glaring about to see if anyone has noticed he observes a young man juggling while somehow managing to drink Root Beer at the same time. |

QUOTE (A Shrule Egan @ 08-Nov-2007, 06:36 PM) | You never did let us know if "An Turas" won any awards, after it was nominated.
|
Well as you know Mike, I was kind of in that funk for some time and pretty much quit caring about the music. So sorry for my oversite on "An Turas" both "An Turas" and "On the Moor" were finalists in the JPF International songwriting awards program. "An Turas" ended up at number 3 in Celtic Instrumental "On the Moor" finished at number 8 in Celtic there were somewhere arround 10,000 songs entered between the 2 catagories. In addition "Lullabies" got honorable mention in the 2007 Billboard song contest which means that it was in the final 100. BTW we do need to catch up and that is all my fault my Shrule Egan friend Michael |

I have been elected to provide the Mulled wine for a reformation dinner with my Church next week and am trying to come up with a good recipe.
I have found a number on line but I thought it might be a good idea to check with my friends here at CRN before I go off the deep end here.
Since I typically prefer a little better wine myself and all the recipes call for cheap wine,,,,,, I could use some brand suggestions on that count definitely
Thanks in advance friends!

Raven tips his beak at the raised glass of the female in the corner and turns his suspicious eye towards the once familiar cat sitting near a seemingly tearful lady, while searching the bar for gingernuts with his free eye. |

Soaring high in the cold clear autumn air the old bird spots his one time comfortable nesting spot and decides to land for a bit, to warm his claws.
He banks and circles to a landing in front of the door hops up and wings it open.
Pausing for a few seconds to let his eyes adjust to the light, he gives a surly look about and hops up on the the bar stool where he motions the Bar keep to bring him a whiskey.
Sipping his cup he glares about the room looking for a familiar face. |

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone
Prayers and well wishing are all appreciated tremendously!
I have a vested interest in the diabetes cure research as I have been type 1 insulin dependant for over 34 years and am one of the lucky ones who is still alive with all original body parts
The medicine has come a long way since I was first diagnosed as a wee lad of 13 and there will likely be a cure in your sister's life time Gwynhwyvar!
Another thing I do with diabetes is support to help diabetics who are having control issues. That is very rewarding on an immediate gratification level
Well they want me to do some work while they are paying me so TTFN and I will see you all soon!

Hi All
(said in my best Dr Evil voice) Some of you I know and some of you I am meeting for the first time
I have been through a plethora of changes over the last year with the break up of my band and a 25 year relationship, plus suddenly becoming the parent of a 16 year old just to name a few things......let's see that about brings it up to date oh yeah I am riding bicycles for Juvinile Diabetes Research now and have logged over 5000 miles since March.
My life hasn't slowed down that much but a message from Rindy on MS reminded me that I should at least check in from time to time so that I can keep in touch with old friends who are not on MySpace
Hey Friends both old and new, good to see you again and nice to meet you!

Good one Robert.
I am a Christian-but should be a new catagory
That is what I am but I don't go in for religeon. I have faith in the God of the Bible and feel pretty much the same way you do, in other words I try to be the person that God would have me to be as an expression of love for him.
The operative being "try" I think actions speak volumes but still being human there is always that factor to keep in mind. Vulcans have it so much better with out all that emotional entanglement

ON a very positive note.
Friday was our final show
We headlined Radio Radio for an annual benefit that we have participated in since it's beginning to raise money for Second Helping Food rescue (aka "The Tonic Ball")
We did 3 songs total starting with "and She was" by the Talking Heads (the theme for the venue we worked) We then moved on to "Loch Lommond" (complete with choreography) and ended our careers with Blaq Lily with "An Turas" from our "Forged in the Fire" CD
The room was so full that everyone that wanted to see our last gasp could not get in and I do believe that in almost 8 years I have never heard or seen a crowd cheer and yell for us quite like that. There was certainly not a dry eye on stage or in the green room afterwards.
What a great way to go out!
RIP Blaq Lily

The Nominations are in for the 2006 Just Plain Folks songwriting awards. With almost 50,000 CDs entered and over a half a million songs for 63 catagories this is truly the largest Music award.
Check out the Celtic and Celtic Instrumental and not only will you see some pretty heavy hitters in the Celtic Music community but also some up and coming groups that I know will be fantastic future finds for Celtic Radio.Net.
I am very excited to announce that my group "Arminta and Blaq Lily" managed to land 2 songs in the finals off of our latest CD "Forged in the Fire" we are very honored to be in the company of The Prodigals, Bad Haggis, An Dochas, Arlene Faith, Barley Juice, and the Saw Doctors. Just to name a few. It is highly unlikely that we will advance to the top song in either catagory but the fact that we made the final 20 in 2 catagories is an extreme honor.
You can see the complete list at Just Plain Folks 2006 Music Awards Nominees
Thanks to all you folks here at CRN who have supported us down through the years!! It truly means a lot to us!!

I just discovered them this summer when a friend of mine in AL suggested that I check them out!
