I have so many warm and wonderful memories of Christmas with our kids and grand kids but no matter how old I get, there is one memory of Christmas that always brings joy to my heart and never fails to solicit a fond tear or two...When I was about 10 years old or so, I came to the realization that Jultompten needed help in getting all those toys put together and under the tree by morning light. My dad would enlist my assistance with these joyous chores of assembly for my 5 younger brothers and sisters. ( one more was to follower in a couple of years ) I got to stay up late and to ensure that all were asleep, my dad and I would attend our Midnight service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. An abbreviated Communion service filled with Christmas carols, it was conducted at midnight in candle light. We did this together for a number of years, even when I was grown up with children of my own, though each year proved more difficult with mounting obligations. 22 years ago we moved to Florida and 10 years ago my dad passed away. It's been a long, long time since I spent that short hour in quiet reverence with my dad. Oh how I long for one more...Merry Christmas...God Jul

[SIZE=7]Christmas really is a special time of the year.....filled with memories both glad and sad. Bittersweet rather than sad. Doesn't matter how many years have gone by, I still love watching my friends and family open the gifts I have made or chosen specifically for them. I love seeing the houses decorated and festooned with lights. Among my best memories are the times a group of us would get together to go caroling. I always love singing the carols and adding a harmony here and there as I remember them from "olden times". Hahaha

A very Merry Christmas to my Celtic Radio friends!!

Ah yes, caroling, used to enjoy it immensely. Way back when I was but a young lad I belonged to our church's junior choir even though my voice had the quotidian quality of the Drone in a stand of pipes. We had practice on Friday nights and sang during the 7:00 service on Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Berger had a 9 passenger station wagon and would pick up most all of the 15 or so choir members for both practice and church. We also sang at the early Christmas service as well. About 2 weeks before Christmas we would pile into the choir-mobile and go-a-caroling all over town; private homes, stores and other churches, a grand and wonderful time indeed. I still can't sing worth a lick but in the privacy of my home I am the Caruso of caterwauling. The only exception that calls for public display of my lack of talent is the singing of "The National Anthem" and "God Bless America" and "America the Beautiful"...

When I was in high school I was chosen to join the A Capella Choir. The choir routinely placed in state competitions. I was also chosen as a member of the Madrigals. Only a member of the A Capella Choir could audition for the Madrigals. While Choir was part of the school curriculum, Madrigals was completely extra-curricular. I still love to sing and I knock 'em dead at karaoke. It's still not the same as getting a group of friends to walk door to door during the season, though. I'd love to bring it back but today's music doesn't really lend itself to harmony singing. cool.gif

I think that those of you that have beautiful singing voices are truly fortunate and have been touched by the Grace of GOD. I can only imagine the joy you must feel when you sing, as for myself, I can not imagine the joy my own heart would feel if my ears could only hear the melody sung in my heart. So, sing on sweet nightingale, sing on...

Music seems to tie my life together. A large number of my memories are triggered by hearing a song.......I like that. I don't plan on ever stopping my singing......it's a really huge part of who I am.

WallaceGal, it really is a small world. I'm betting you still love your music. Do you play an instrument as well as sing?

Christmas is wonderful, especially because of the First Christmas Gift given so long ago and lovingly wrapped by a little Jewish virgin girl in Bethlehem. For me, He has been, is, and always will be "the Reason for the Season."

As a family, we have many wonderful memories. We have seven children and humanly speaking, it will be virtually impossible for us all to be together again on Christmas Day in this life. But we have our memories and the promise of a "know-so" hope that we will all be together again one day.

In 2015, we have the chance to make more memories to tuck away and recall in those hours when we need them most. I wish for all of you, my Celtic Radio friends and fellow posters, a Christmas that has joy surpassing your greatest hopes this year! Have a wonderful day and season!!

I play several actually and have a baby grand in the living room. She's an old friend smile.gif There isn't a moment that goes by during the day where I don't have some piece of music floating through my head. It's always been the one constant in my life.

WallaceGal....I wish I played an instrument. I never quite managed though. I played piano some as a kid and loved it but never was better than adequate. I think I am just too impatient. When I retire I'd like to get back to playing the piano and learn how to make beaded jewelry as well as cross-stitching.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a joyous New Year...........WallaceGal, five4, and haynes9.

I play around with a couple of instruments. I was "that kid" who hated practicing and now regret it terribly! I do mess with the Native American Flute, Tin Whistle, and Mountain Dulcimer. Not good at any of them (more proficient with the Native American Flute) but they bring me some relaxation and joy.

Thanks for the Merry Christmas wish! Same to all of you! Lord bless!

Music has been my only solace at times during my life. I can't imagine being without it. I do some arts and crafts, but don't have much time lately.

I think you should go for it with learning again! You're never too old smile.gif

Merry Christmas to all here, and to the rest of my Celtic Radio family.
