On January 9th, the extraordinary Trad musician and singer, Seamus Begley, died unexpectedly at age 73. A brilliant musician with a brilliant voice, his presence in the Trad community will be sorely missed.
I had the privilege of hearing Seamus in concert with the mighty band Teada many years ago. When my wife and I traveled to Ireland back in 2011, we stayed at a B & B in Dingle, County Kerry. I saw a CD with Seamus photo on it while we were eating breakfast. The lady who owned the B & B happened to by Seamus' niece by marriage. He lived just across the field from her.
He was one of the premier accordion players in Ireland and had an amazing voice. I would highly recommend his album "The Bold Kerryman." Simply amazing.
I have attached a link to a video of him singing with the legendary Mary Black. Take a listen and enjoy! There are many other videos out there of him playing and singing. If you love Trad, you will love the talent of the amazing Seamus Begley.
