Senator John Kerry visited Iraq recently. Says Ben of Ben of Mesopotamia:
QUOTE |
On Saturday night, a colleague emailed me and told me to bring my camera, as Senator Kerry was scheduled to give a press conference here in the Palace. At 2100, he entered a conference room wearing his leather flight jacket. Unfortunately, there was no media there, except for the enlisted soldiers from AFTN (Armed Forces Television Network) who had to be there. His aide looked around, saw that this just wasn’t happening, and quickly escorted Kerry out before I could take a picture.
Finally, the next morning, Senator Kerry ate chow at the Dining Facility. Normally when a Senator/Representative visits, he is joined by a contingent of soldiers/Marines/airmen from his home state. Despite the fact that the MP unit responsible for Green Zone security is an Army Reserve unit from Massachusetts, not a single soldier went to sit with him. (By contrast, Bill O’Reilly, host of that terrible shoutfest on Fox, had over 400 soldiers waiting in line to meet him on Saturday).
|
WDAY’s (AM 970, Fargo, ND) Scott Hennen quotes a message from a friend serving in Iraq: QUOTE |
This is a true story … Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning. Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He canceled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obviously not troops.
What is amazing is Bill O’Reilly came to visit with us and the troops at the CSH the same day and the line for autographs extended through the palace and people waited for two hours to shake his hand. You decide who is more respected and loved by us servicemen and women!

From ABC News:
QUOTE |
Al Qaeda has sent a message to leaders of the Democratic party that credit for the defeat of congressional Republicans belongs to the terrorists.
In a portion of the tape from al Qaeda No. 2 man, Ayman al Zawahri, made available only today, Zawahri says he has two messages for American Democrats.
“The first is that you aren’t the ones who won the midterm elections, nor are the Republicans the ones who lost. Rather, the Mujahideen — the Muslim Ummah’s vanguard in Afghanistan and Iraq — are the ones who won, and the American forces and their Crusader allies are the ones who lost,” Zawahri said, according to a full transcript obtained by ABC News.
Zawahri calls on the Democrats to negotiate with him and Osama bin Laden, not others in the Islamic world who Zawahri says cannot help.
“And if you don’t refrain from the foolish American policy of backing Israel, occupying the lands of Islam and stealing the treasures of the Muslims, then await the same fate,” he said.
|
Since the media normally puts anything Zawahri says at the front of their newscasts I find it strange that this hasn't made it to any major news outlet, and the story is 4 days old already.
So did the Democrats or the Terrorists win in November?
And Pelosi and Company negotiating with al Zawahri and bin Laden ought to be an interesting event.

From WSJV TV:
QUOTE |
Santa Hat-Wearing Bus Driver Allowed to Keep Job
A Santa hat-wearing school bus driver on Long Island, N.Y., has won the right to keep wearing his festive headgear, Newsday reported.
Kenneth Mott, who keeps a long, white beard, almost lost his job after a parent called the bus management to complain. Mott, who has worn the red and white hat every Christmas since he started with the Bauman & Sons bus company five years ago, was ordered to stop wearing the hat because a child didn't believe in Santa Claus and was bothered by the hat.
"I said, 'What, are you kidding me?'" Mott recalled. "I thought it was a big joke," Newsday reported.
However, after Mott told other parents he might be fired for wearing the hat, supervisors changed their stance and said he could continue to wear the hat.
|
Is this just a stage this country is going through? One snively kid was -gasp- bothered by a bus driver wearing a Santa hat. SO the kid goes home and complains to his parents. Then one of the parents calls the bus company to complain. Can you imagine that phone call? "Yes, one of your drivers -offended- my poor child by wearing a Santa hat." From Newsday: QUOTE |
Last Thursday, when he returned from driving children to school at the Commack School District, he said his supervisors at the Baumann and Sons bus company demanded that he take off his Santa hat. He was told that a parent complained to the district that their child doesn't believe in Santa Claus and was bothered by the hat.
Mott said he doesn't pretend to be Santa while driving, nor does he play Christmas carols or decorate his bus.
|
No, you mean he was wearing that Evil Hat whist taking kids to school? Think about the carnage done to those poor children!
What about when there are all those offensive stuffed Easter Bunnies near the front door of the local Wal-Mart, because only the Great Unwashed still believe in the Evil Easter Bunny?
Surely to goodness this brat has never kept a pulled tooth under his pillow for the Evil Tooth Fairy.
To put this "offense" in perspective, if the bus driver was wearing a turban and the kid complained, he would have to been called a racist and publicly forced to apologize to the guy. He then would have had to go to court-mandated anger management class.
A hundred bucks says this kid goes into politics.

After three years of buying and selling on eBay I finally got scammed. This issue is still pending so I’m not going to post any names (yet) but here’s the story.
I bought a 4GB USB flash RAM drive on eBay back in November. I’ve purchased these before with great success and great savings. Fortunately I had already read “BEWARE of Counterfeit USB Flash Drives“, an eBay Guide detailing problems on eBay with fake drives. So I already knew that there were a lot of fakes out there being sold, and I knew how to spot one.
IMPORTANT: If you do buy one of these devices the first thing to do is to write an amount of data to the drive equal to its capacity, and then read back the same data from the drive to another location on my PC to compare.
After writing about 2GB any further writes failed. And nothing at all could be read back.
So I contacted the seller, someone with a Feedback score of 140 and a Positive feedback of 96%, and requested a replacement due to defect. He was happy to do so.
About a week later the replacement arrived and - gasp - the same thing happened. Now I don’t want any replacement, I believe this guy is either knowingly or unknowingly selling crap. I requested an immediate complete refund.
“no probleme just return it and iwill issue a reund promptly thanks”
The piece of junk flash drive is now in the mail going back to Cleveland, OH.
There are no “Bad” comments anywhere in his Feedback, so am I the only one that’s received crap? Or is everyone else technically ignorant?
Something else - he used to sell a bunch of these drives, yet today it doesn’t look like he’s selling anything? As a matter of fact there is nobody from Ohio selling flash drives today. Has he switched identities to minimize bad feedback? |

I'd like to make a quick shout-out to an extension for Firefox: FEBE 4
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2109/
QUOTE |
FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.
FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers.
|
I use Firefox both at work and at home. But since I use my work computer more it has the most updated extensions and passwords. So I installed FEBE on both computers. Then I did a backup, put the result of the backup on a flash drive, took it home, and did a restore to my home computer. Now my home computer has all my normal extensions, and has them updated correctly. I also have all my online passwords loaded and updated. And all this happens quickly and (so far) flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

QUOTE (maisky @ 15-Dec-2006, 08:38 AM) | I agree with the entire message, however. Scary, isn't it? |
Brother maisky, this makes us 2-0 on the two of us agreeing ... and on the same day! I might have to request a Instant Replay Ruling from the referees.
Surely there's something I can do to torque up my arch-nemesis ...
AHHHHH! That's it! Something from Brother maisky's daily source of factual news: WorldNetDaily.com
QUOTE |
Soy is making kids 'gay' by Jim Rutz Posted: December 12, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?...RTICLE_ID=53327
There's a slow poison out there that's severely damaging our children and threatening to tear apart our culture. The ironic part is, it's a "health food," one of our most popular.
Now, I'm a health-food guy, a fanatic who seldom allows anything into his kitchen unless it's organic. I state my bias here just so you'll know I'm not anti-health food.
The dangerous food I'm speaking of is soy. Soybean products are feminizing, and they're all over the place. You can hardly escape them anymore.
I have nothing against an occasional soy snack. Soy is nutritious and contains lots of good things. Unfortunately, when you eat or drink a lot of soy stuff, you're also getting substantial quantities of estrogens.
Estrogens are female hormones. If you're a woman, you're flooding your system with a substance it can't handle in surplus. If you're a man, you're suppressing your masculinity and stimulating your "female side," physically and mentally.
In fetal development, the default is being female. All humans (even in old age) tend toward femininity. The main thing that keeps men from diverging into the female pattern is testosterone, and testosterone is suppressed by an excess of estrogen.
(and the story continues ...)
|
Yep (I says with a swagger) when I go to Starbucks I would rather demand they spit in my Quad Venti Caramel Macchiato rather than drip a single drop of that evil, feminizing soy.
And since it's on the internet it has to be true.
Geez, what I mean here is Old Testament, Brother maisky. Real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, and volcanoes. The dead rising from the grave. Human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.

OK, so I took a few days off from reality. I had a simple medical procedure done Monday, and I’ve been “offline” (both mentally and physically) for the last couple of days.
And I “come back to reality” to discover that, according to quite a number of people around the world, the Holocaust never happened.
Wow. At first I thought I simply had too many narcotics still running through my veins. But, alas, not so, for this is the state of world events today.
* The conference has 67 participants from 30 countries. * Iran banned any dissenting voices from Holocaust conference by not issuing visas to them. * Former US Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke attended Iran’s Holocaust conference. * French writer Georges Thiel, who had been convicted of Holocaust denial (a crime in France), attended. * An Israeli Arab lawyer, Khaled Muhammed, was denied permission to attend the conference by Iran after the discovery of his holding Israeli citizenship.
An insane leader, leading a group of insane people, in an insane quest. But really, there is no reason I should be surprised.
But this conference is not simply to make headlines. Ahmadinejad does not recognize the 1967 borders - or any borders - for a Jewish state. He has said that the Holocaust was a myth and has called for the destruction of the State of Israel. He uses Holocaust denial to eradicate the moral basis for Israel’s existence, and even says so openly. That was the explicit explanation that the Iranian foreign minister gave for why it is necessary to discuss the “myth” of the Holocaust right now. Iran is helping make clear that the “Arab-Israeli conflict” is not about borders, settlements or refugees, but about the radical Islamist refusal to accept the right of a Jewish state to exist in any shape or form. The Iranian conference illustrates the linkage between Holocaust denial and Israel denial. But don’t be too angry at either Ahmadinejad or Iran - they simply have the courage to say and do openly what millions of other Arabs are saying and doing quietly, as well as millions of Europeans and Americans.
In opening remarks, Manouchehr Mottaki said: “If the official version of the Holocaust is thrown into doubt, then the identity and nature of Israel will be thrown into doubt. If… it is proved that the Holocaust was a historical reality, then what is the reason for the Palestinians having to pay the cost of the Nazis’ crimes?”
Wow, what a win-win situation for the Islamists. (1) No Holocaust, then no reason for Israel to exist, or (2) If Holocaust, then OK but ship them out of the Arab area since they don’t belong there.
Tony Blair, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, denounced the conference as “shocking beyond belief” Blair also said that is was “a symbol of sectarianism and hatred toward people of another religion. I mean, to go and invite the former head of the Ku Klux Klan to a conference in Tehran which disputes the millions of people who died in the Holocaust … what further evidence do you need that this regime is extreme?”
There used to be a motto associated with the Holocaust: "Never Again". And yet, a mere 60 years later, we seeing the word "Never" getting erased - and does anyone really care? |

QUOTE (John Clements @ 14-Dec-2006, 09:28 AM) | The other ad showed a photo of a GI, taking aim from a fox hole, and the headline simply asked, “Will he stop killing, when he comes home?” |
Is the implication here that once a soldier returns from combat that they're more likely to be a danger to civilized society than someone that didn't see combat?
That is absolutely grossly unfair.
I have never heard a statistic that shows that to be true. I would feel far safer surrounded in my neighborhood with combat vets than:
- urban gangsters - youth gangs - suburban drunk drivers
Don't these last three groups cause 100x more carnage than a law-abiding citizen that owns a legal firearm? They kill more and more, yet it's far easier to blame an inanimate object - a gun - for committing crimes.
Very few guns have ever killed anyone. The death is usually caused by the person operating the gun. So why isn't our focus on the operator?
When you read news stories, and look at verified statistics, you'll notice a dozen, maybe, cases where a licensed gun owner used his or her firearm in a reckless or illegal manner. Yet using those same news stories and verified statistics you'll see hundreds of gun-related crimes in that same time period that were perpetrated by individuals already prohibited by state or federal laws from possessing firearms.
No, we really don't need more and more draconian laws that only affect those that follow the law, but rather establish a justice system that adequately punishes or removes those that break our existing laws.
And we go into hysteria by the illegal actions of a minuscule percentage (n) of the population committing the majority of the crimes by passing law upon law that will be obeyed only by the remaining (100-n)% of us. |

** POOF **
You now have lots of time with your hubby, although the quality, romantic hour you just spent with him picking lint out of his belly button left something to be desired.
I wish the Thanksgiving / Christmas season could come and go without leaving me with so many additional pounds around my belly (allowing even more collection of belly button lint).
