It has been a while without an update, especially with all the focus lately on COVID-19 and in protecting ourselves and staying healthy. So we hope all of our members are doing OK and we thank you for the continued support and use of Celtic Radio!
We wanted to make a little announcement that we are working on a brand new website for Celtic Radio. The new website will not be a replacement for CelticRadio.net, but will function more like an APP and be very focused on tuning into the music and providing rich multimedia experience. Focus will be on tuning into our channels and providing news and information about Celtic musicians and history. CelticRadio.net will continue to be available and will be the location of our extensive online tools and audio functions (i.e. request library, ratings, favorite songs, etc).
The new website will include brand new audio players that will work just as easy on a phone, desktop or tablet. We are super excited about this new technology we will be harnessing for Celtic Radio, and we hope to have some screenshots of the new website soon which looks absolutely beautiful.
While we are developing the new website, our updates might be a little less as we focus most of our resources on this project.
We are very excited too! It could be several months before we are ready to release the site. First reactions to our design have been very positive. Hopefully in a few weeks we will release a few screenshots.
The new site is being built on a platform that will allow us to continue to support Celtic Radio for many years to come. CelticRadio.net and our mobile site will continue to be available and function just as they are today. The new site is not meant to be a replacement, but more of an extension and will bring our design and coding up to current.
Which by the way has been our plans now for many years owning this web address and offering our Celtic Music Radio bumper stickers now for maybe 15 years!
So along with this new website we are also upgrading all of our broadcast servers to new technology since effective 1/1/2021 most browsers and Apps will no longer let you play non-secured radio streams. (http vs https).
Here is a demo of our new player widget running in secure HTTPS mode widget by itself.
This will be the player we will use on the new website. We have already upgraded two of our streams and you will not notice anything different while using CelticRadio.net.
Will post a screenshot of the concept for the new website soon. Expectation right now is the new website may be completed mid to late summer.
Right now on the App both "Celt Rock Radio" and "A Celtic Christmas" are using the secure stream (not the widget). Google is basically going to block all non secure streams starting on 1/1/2021 so it is great that we were able to identify a new broadcast package that also has some awesome widget technology.
We plan on updating all of our channels to this new format over the next few weeks and there should be no interuption to our services as we transition to the new broadcast servers.
The new website will be adaptive to your device, meaning it will work on a desktop, labtop, tablet or phone regardless of platform.
Are you still having any problems playing the streams on the Android version of the App?
Here is a link to our public profile page of Highlander Radio using the new streaming servers. This employs the latest version of Shoutcast and widget technologies.
I do believe the sound quality is much better with the new technology.
Right now the low bandwidth stream (from the drop down indicated as Stream-64) is not working. We are working with the vendor to get this bug worked out.

The volume is still a bit buggy in that it starts full blast every time, but as soon as you turn it down, it's fine on all stations and yes, they're working much better now!
I love the new widget. Lots of hard work, I know, but so worth it in the end. Thanks for all you do!
Can't wait to try it out. I listen at work on a tablet right now which is connected to a cheap boombox for the sound. Unfortunately, and I don't know if it's because of the tablet, the boombox, or the website the volume is pretty low and I have to turn it up on both the tablet and the boombox to hear it. Almost to full volume. No trouble with the home speakers on my desktop computer. Music off of youtube or other stations seems to be better with the volume. Any suggestions? I don't use the app on my tablet, I just go right to the website and listen form there.

Unavoidably Detained by the World
"Irishness is not primary a question of birth or blood or language; it is the condition on being involved in the Irish situation, and usually of being mauled by it."-Conor Cruise O'Brien
I am a big fan of Celtic Moon! New audio player for me is not a succes on my laptop. I listen while doing my art work. On my laptop many pictures of my vacations in England, Celtic places and Celtic designs, enjoying looking at them from time to time. Very inspiring. Your old small player in the corner of my screen. If there is a song that I really like, and I didn't hear it before, I immediately take a note of that. This way I found many songs for my music library. Your new player is screen filling, not that small anymore. I did like the old one more.

Thank you so much for being a supporter of Celtic Radio!
Our player page is just a temporary solution until we have our new popup player widget ready to go. We will work on that and have it perhaps ready soon under our premium accounts.
In the meantime, feel free to use the old popup player which should work on labtops, desktops and tablets.
We have made available to our premium members the new pop-up player. Thanks for noticing and glad it is working good.
Personally I really like the new popup playing which has direct links for many players, album cover and the song title all in one place. I also believe the sound quality is much better.
Our premium members get three players to choose from:
Full Page Player (new)
New Player Widget (popup)
Celtic Radio Player (old but still works good)
Going premium gets your access to all of our channels in the App and through our desktop. Just another reason to go premium and help us support this site.
We got some great new music coming up in a few days as well as new shows. Whats interesting is that all of the music submission in the past month have been electronic - no CDs in the mail. Times have changed!
Work continues on the new website, but we are not expecting the first release for several months.
