Ceann has made a name for themselves on both sides of the Atlantic by poking fun at the all too popular theme in Irish music of Americans pretending to be Irish. The band has embraced their true identity, five Americans of ambiguous Irish descent who didn’t want to pay for beer anymore. The aforementioned Americans are Patrick Halloran (Guitar, Button Box, Vocals), Marc Wisnosky (Irish Tin Whistle, Irish Tenor Banjo, Vocals), James G. Telfer, IV (Bass, Fiddle, Vocals), Scott “The Black” Taylor (Drums), Brer Brian (Mandolin, Guitar, Vocals), and Jimmy Gleason (Banjo, Stratocaster, Vocals).

With the November 2005 release of their third full length CD “Almost Irish:, Ceann continues to make a name for themselves as some of the music’s premier entertainers, playing shows all over the East Coast and into the Midwest, with shows in New York, Philadephia, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Chicago on their latest promotional tour.

“Almost Irish” was recorded over a 7 month period a KMA Studios in New York City with engineer Charlie Blass. It features guest musicians such as former Black 47 and current Seanachai and the Unity Squad frontman Chris Byrne (Uilleann Pipes, Tin Whistle), Mr. North’s Emmett O’Malley (Guitar), Tommy Walsh (Accordian), and Rich McDaid (Fiddle). The band is also promoting CD release shows in all their normal stomping grounds, including their original hometown of Pittsburgh, as well as Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Boston, New York, and many others. With over 120 shows already booked next year, 2006 will be a different kind of year for the boys of Ceann, and a different kind of year for Irish music.

With a constant stream of new CDs to review and place on our broadcast, we’ve grown accustomed to the standard Celtic type CD - Green hills rolling, lush rivers flowing and inspiring sunsets setting!

Then one day this CD arrives with a low-res image of a Celtic Cross, St. Patrick playing a electric guitar and snakes with human heads? What goes here!! This has got to be someone’s idea of a joke or something completely new and innovative! Well, we are happy to report it is the latter…..

Ceann’s “Almost Irish” is one of the most creative, energetic and fun bands that we have seen come along in a long time. These boys have redefined Celtic rock music with a purposeful “American” touch that will surely put a smile on even the most rigid European. And if you are American, hey we finally have our own home-brewed rendition of Celtic music! There is just no better way to put it, Ceann’s “Almost Irish” rules. With tracks like “Pabst Blue Beer” (makes you wanna drink), “Butt Tattoo” (Did you ever realize how many office girls have a Butt Tattoo) and the classic “The Worst Pirate Song” (Arrrrrrr) – you can not go wrong picking up this CD for your Celtic music collection.

For Celtic Rockers only (and those that like to drink and smile) – get this CD – 4.5 stars and a BUY recommendation from CelticRadio.net!
