Burlingame CA (Live365) May 1, 2005 - Live365, the world's largest internet radio community, announced the winners in over 50 genres and non-musical categories at a celebration at the Embassy Suites Hotel.

The ceremony featured live entertainment from San Francisco recording artists Renee Sebastian and Kiff Gallagher, with Geoff Byrd from Portland OR, headlining. Byrd, who just signed with Granite Records (Universal), kicked off his 50-stop radio tour with a stunning performance that garnered a standing ovation.

Taking the award for the “Best in World” music radio category was Highlander Radio, an independent Celtic music webcast based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded by Paul and Sara MacArthur in 2001, Highlander Radio (also known as CelticRadio.net), plays a wide range of Celtic Music – “from the Pipes & Drums of Scotland, to the inspirational Gaelic vocals of Ireland.”

“We just could not have done it without the outstanding listener following that Highlander Radio has generated over the past few years.”, comments Paul MacArthur, “When we started Highlander Radio in 2001, our goal was to simply provide a place to hear Celtic music that is commonly played at local Highland Games and Celtic Music Festivals, we never knew there was such a demand for this type of music genre which the airwaves seems to have completely ignored.”

Highlander Radio features a companion website located at http://www.CelticRadio.net with cutting-edge innovated radio features developed over the past few years. “Our listeners can tune in through Live365 and make a live song request and dedication through our website. The requests are automatically inserted into our broadcast. We offer a weekly Top Ten count down hosted by our radio DJ Rebecca Gethings, community forums, chat and a whole site developed to further enhance our broadcast.”

Listeners can visit CelticRadio.net and view the current playing song, purchase CDs and talk with other listeners in the popular Celtic Radio Community forums. “It really is amazing the amount of interest that this whole endeavor has generated over the past few years. We literally have listeners all over the world, from Hong Kong, to North America and even parts of the middle east.”

The success of Highlander Radio is not unlike other popular internet radio stations and upstarts that are banking on the potential that internet radio represents. “When we started Highlander Radio we quickly realized that this medium could change the way we listen to radio. Once the internet becomes available wirelessly we are going to see internet radio in cars, portable players and even cell phones. “

MacArthur likens internet radio broadcasters to the amateur radio broadcasters of the 1920’s. “We all have this vision that what we are doing is really ground breaking and could have a major impact on how we listen to radio. Radio enthusiast of the 1920’s certainly made a major impact on the culture of the times, and we believe we can do the same.”

Apparently, 37 million Americans agree. The ratings company Arbitron, Inc. (NYSE: ARB – news) says that some 37 million Americans tune into Internet Radio at least once a month, up from 11 million four years ago.

“We’d just like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the support that all of the Highlander Radio listeners and members have shown over the past few years. Our Live365 “Mikey” award is now proudly displayed on top of the Highlander Radio computer server and we just could not have won this award without the support of our listeners.”
