The Mickeys are a Celtic band from Akron, Ohio that blend the Celtic music of Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales with their heritage of the "Akron Sound." The Mickeys present an electric blend of ancient tunes and original compositions using traditional and modern instruments.
The Mickeys latest CD "Beyond the Pale" features the uptempo single "Donald McGillavry" and two originals: A Gaelic tune "Cumha Ro Gheur (Bitter Lament) and "Irish Moon". Rounding out this well done compiliation are the tradition songs; Galway Races, Danny Boy and the Parting Glass.
The Mickeys have their roots in the Akron punk scene, but have taken that energy and infused it with a modern Celtic rock style that is sure to appeal to a wide audience. The band not only appeals to audiences of all ages, but especially seems to be enjoyed by the younger fans. Mickey's vocalist Anne Alexander (who sings Gaelic and plays tin whistle, flute and saxophane) says "We get hired at festivals because we have very good appeal to all ages...Little kids will gravitate toward us, every age seems to like us."
In this day of a constant stream of traditional Celtic music, we find the Mickeys have the "right stuff" that will keep Celtic music fresh and inspiring for a long time to come!
The band's line-up features:
Anne Alexander: tin whistles, flutes, saxophane and vocals.
Bobbi Horvath: fiddle, banjo and vocals.
Mick Hurray: guitars, bass, banjo, electric dulcimer, and vocals.
