Somebody once mentioned watering plants. I prefer to use light beer. It's more like water than REAL water.

wow!!! I hope I'm not too late for this conversation. I love to gab about this stuff. My wife has horrible allergies so I do ALL yard activities. Which is really fine by me, I quite enjoy it. I just planted 98 sweet corn plants yesterday. Started them from seed about a week and a half ago. We also have a variety of bell peppers( mangos if you are from the south) as well as herbs, and some tomato plants too.
Planted some flowers over the weekend, black Hollyhocks, fox glove (one of my FAVS) white and purple coneflowers, blackeyed susans.

I spent a lot of my time as a kid at my grandparents farm, so I got the farming/gardening bug early in life. It runs in the family. smile.gif

I'm hoping to eventually buy some land in eastern Tennessee or western North Carolina in the next 5-10 years. Raise some crops and Scottish Highland Cattle. I have a plan... LOL laugh.gif

Never too late!! wink.gif Glad ye joined in!!

Wow.....you've been busy. 98 sweet corn plants.....ye must have a huge garden. Have ye planted corn before? I planted m'vegetable garden FINALLY a week ago. Did a wee bit of corn, for the first time....I don't know if it will take or not, am hoping. I heard it grows alright in a small garden, as long as ye have two rows side by side......don't know of the truth of this, though. Will find out soon enough!! *lol* Tried bell peppers a few years ago, when we lived in another province...they grew like crazy. Never heard of them called mangos before.....verra neat!! Your flowers sound beautiful. smile.gif

Thank you!
The gardens not that big at all. It's just thought out. LOL! where can I fit what? I don't know what is going to survive due to MONSOON that we have had this weekend! Everything was under about 12" of water yesterday. It's down to about 1-2". We have just been hit so hard with rain this year.

Your corn might do alright. It needs to be very close together for the cross pollenation. Rows length wise should be about 9-12" apart, side by side about 4-6" apart. That way they can be cross pollenated. biggrin.gif I have 10 rows, with 9 in each row.( it looks like I lost a row due to wash out) So, it's not too big really. Something like 8'x 7'. Something around that...

Yes, very hearty cows...

They are so cool lookin'

Mary's Gardnening Adventure:

Ages 0-23 killed anything I touched. INCLUDING air ferns

Age24: Attempted to plant some basic vegetables in pots on the patio to the rear of my apartment. The 2 tomaotes are THRIVING, but I atribute that to the composted cow manure, and the rain (It didn't matter that I forgot to water them). THe green peppers drowned due to me forgetting to remove the plugs from the bottom of the planter and the monsoon Jason was referring to. I lost interest after planting the 2 tomato plants ans 2 pepper plants, so basically the other plans I bought died a long hard death.
