Pacasandra !

Altho I myself love the look of ivy under a tree smile.gif

You can allways build up some dirt in the roots..
and depending on the degree of shade.. add some plants..

I manage to grow a few Ginko Hostas under my big tree..
and some lobelia...
But I do find. I have to keep adding dirt.. so I got some pound in edgeing..
that really helped..

Good luck !

Alright, people! Grass doesn't grow under my oak trees, too much shade.....Any suggestions for shade tolerant ground covers, besides ivy? No, I won't get rid of the trees! laugh.gif

Foxglove also does well in partial sun to shade..... and it is SOOOOOO pretty 2'-3' flower spikes of white, yellow, magenta, purple tubular bellshaped flowers.... also known as faerie bells, of faerie cups...

Jason Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
you won't be able to lift your arms for a week or more smile.gif

You could have a de thatching and cook out party...
But your friends may not ever come back !

De Thatching is a lot of work..
If you have a mower, try renting the de thatching attatchment that drags behind it ...
With a Gum Locust in the front.. those acidic little leaves were matting down my grass in the front.. I think that yard is ruffly 30X20...
The rake really did not do me much good ...
Thats when I called in the pros..now that was almost eight years ago...
and with up keep, its easy ...

Another thing I do, is wear my old metal golf spikes no matter what I am doing in the yard, it gives me a better foot hold when the grass is wet..
and punches wee holes into the soil...
My mower mulches also, and I swear my lawn is much happier ..
Now , if I could get get rid of all the cover and plaintain out back sad.gif

Pardon?

The party is off??

I can think of a worse way to spend an afternoon than watching someone push a de thatching machine around the yard !
Sounds like a perfect excuse to have some St Andre , grapes, and good French bread... oh. and wine !

I can ask for a sign up sheet ! * innocent look*
