It would have even funnier if they had put some soccer or rugby balls in the window. Speaking of kilt stores I'm surprised Hot Topics has never carried them or something like them for the guys. It seems that they would stock that sort of merchandise. Maybe we should get a kilt campaign going.

The whole world! I don't know if I want to share the "secret" appeal of the kilt with the whole world just yet. It's just too much fun being in the minority for me right now if ye know what I mean. rolleyes.gif

I love kilts!! I think that getting a photo contest together is an awesome idea! I'd love to see some of these guys is their kilts!

Crazy, when you get a chance I'd like to see some pictures of your kilts! That would be great.

I decided I must get hubby one. Now what tartan to choose? happy.gif

There is an unbelievable varity (I believe over 5,000 at this point) but most tend to go with the family name tartans. that tends to be the Scottish rule of thumb. Irish tend to go with the county they live in. If you are neither Scottish or Irish you can get tartans of you're country (I've seen Amrerican, German, Canada, Italian (mine), Cornwall etc. If you live in the U.S.A. there is a good chance that there is a state tartan. I know Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota all have state tartans. There are also Corporation tartans, National tartans, job related tartans, etc. Good place to check is http://www.Electric Scotland.com

we do have a state tartan, and have even just gotten a Tricentennial tartan for our city. Unfortunately I don't like either of them. Maybe I'll let him choose one and I'll get a matching one. I have heard that women aren't supposed to wear kilts...is that true?

Technically, no, women don't wear the kilt. But there are women that play in pipe bands that do. Part of the uniform.
There are also what are called "Open Tartans" like The Blackwatch, Royal Stewart, Dress Gordon (Mine) and a few others. Open means anyone can wear them.

good to know! So if I get a skirt it would be more appropriate? That is OK with me, I'd like it a little longer anyway.

I think one of our pipe bands wear Blackwatch for their uniform. It is a nice looking tartan. I like the Dress Gordon as well.
Thanks for the input! thumbs_up.gif
