I was surfing about looking for some stuff on Dylan Thomas, and I found this site. So many images, and good quality!

And here is another with all kinds of monuments and sculpture:

Enjoy them!

Wow! How did you find these sites? I just took a few samples but they are great! I'll have to go throught them all a little at a time. Thanks, stoirmeil.

Twisty story. In conjunction with some substance abuse studies I was looking at, I found out recently that Dylan Thomas did not actually drink himself to death, as is popularly thought, but that he was very sick with pneumonia and was administered a higher than normal dose of morphine by a doctor who sounds like an idiot (Thomas did have about 8 shots of whiskey in him, not a lethal dose but of course the narcotic on top of it was a very bad idea, and him already very low with both lungs deeply involved). St Vincent's hospital, right here in the Village in my fair city. Heartbreaking, and I have wept before knowing that that astonishing, original voice never made it to 40. So I tried searching on his name for more info, and I accidentally had the Google image search engaged. Up came an image of a statue of him, that was on a site full of images. So I thought -- hmmm, can't let this go to waste.

What a beautiful country.

Thanks Stoirmeil - While searching around the BBC's Welsh site, I came across this photo and thought you might like it. According to the caption, this was the house where Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea and his home as a child.

I've often pondered what would have been created by brilliant people who died young if they'd lived on too. If Keats hadn't had TB and died at 23 or Shelley hadn't died in that storm at 30 or Mozart who died at 35 or Raphael at 37, another one of those astonishing artist/architects of the Renaissance, just to name a few.

But then, the fact that I wonder this at all is because of the beautiful work they did leave us - and that provides some consolation.

What's also astonishing is what some have done at young ages. Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein before age 19 comes to mind. By contrast, one wonders how many William James Sidis' there have been. Not to malign the man, who certainly had the right to do as he pleased, but I wonder what could have been done with such ability. Having said that, given the same situation I wonder if I'd have done differently.

What all this has to do with photos of Wales I don't know - just some idle pondering. Yeah, its a beautiful country that would be such fun to visit someday.
