| It is that time again..
Time to send our sweet beds to rest..
If you have a mirco brewery in your area..
Spent barley is a wonderful dressing for the winter sleep our plants need..
When the spring rains come, it makes a tonic for even the weariest soils..
Salt hay is a wondeful cover as well
Devoid of all seed, it keeps the beds snug , and decomposes easily!
Pine needles and branches can work well with any acid loving plants.
Aged manure is always a treat for the soil, and plants that need a winters rest..
Just make sure it is not hot..
If you have a friend who beds their horses on straw..
that is fantastic,, shavings tend to be hot for a few weeks..
I want to share with all of you a poem I wrote about putting the garden to bed..
Summer says her last good-bye
The autumn sun, low in the sky ,
Chill mornings tell me , time is nigh
To sing my garden lullaby.
Delphinium, go to sleep .
Asters stop your creep.
Close your black eyes Susan,
Rest well until the spring.
Your song again you'll sing .
One last goldfinch lights before you go,
Soon you lovley coneflowers will slumber 'neath the snow
Good night my garden,
Enjoy your winters sleep .
When the sweet sun warms the earth again ,
Your beauty I will keep .
This is published on the web and copywritted
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful fall and Harvest!
