My name is Ken and I am a Cajun living in Louisiana. I've been a fan of Celtic music since I first heard the Thistle and Shamrock on public radio several years ago. I've listened to Highlander Radio for some time but this my first time on the forum. I also listen to LiveIreland.com on the trad & folk stream because I really like their playlist. I've been exploring the site a bit and I was surprised that the artist index was missing my favorite Celtic group, Dervish. I would ask the powers that be to take a look at the Dervish web site and consider adding this group to your index. Fair warning, once you hear the voice of Cathy Jordan, you won't be able to get the sound out of your head. In my opinion, this is the best traditional celtic group Ireland has to offer, but don't take my word for it, listen to the sample mp3s from their latest album Spirit. This group has been around for some time so I was surprised that they were not in the index. As I write this, I'm listening to the civil war music program for the first time but it won't be my last. With what is passed off as music these days, it's good to have this resource to turn to for a glimpse of what music use to be. I'm starting to sound like my dad so it's time for me to stop. Don't expect to see me posting much, I usually don't have much to say.

Hi Ken,
I'm glad you've decided to join us here on the posts. It's always nice to hear from people, even if it's just occasionally, since it gives us all fresh perspectives and different insights. Please, now that you've taken this initial step, come back in often - even if it's just to drop a quick note about something!

I followed your lead to the Dervish Site, and enjoyed their music clips very much. walkman.gif Thanks for letting us know about them. I'm sure MacFive will add their music to the library, not to worry. They would be fun to see in person, too! Good choice!

Again, glad you've jumped in here. Don't stay away too long. cheers.gif

Thank you ladies, you all sure make a fella feel welcomed. I might have to come back more often, lol.wink.gif I only wish my browser got along better with this forum, these pages take forever to load and that's unusual for Opera. I usually only have this problem on MSN forums but I think these pages are even slower. Fortunately, the music works fine with Winamp.

Welcome OBH!

Thanks for stopping by to say HI! Its great to hear people who listen, getting involved to introduce themselves to everyone here in Celtic Radio land! biggrin.gif

Our site was developed for IE specific; although we have managed to get other browsers working, it is really intended for an IE audience with broadband. You might want to give it a try with IE and see if there is an improvement.

Thanks for the welcome, boss. I can certainly understand optimizing your site for IE, they do after all have the lion's share of the market. Having seen your coat of arms, I would have thought you would make special dispensation for Opera, lol. wink.gif For me, the important thing is the music so if I have to wait on Opera on occasion, so be it. I always feel like my fly is open when I use IE. unsure.gif I'll just make a point of stopping by when I'm not in a hurry.

Warmest of welcomes, OBH. I checked out the link you gave to Dervish, and they are great indeed! They will be up in my area in July, so I'm going to try to check them out live! Glad you've joined us here.

Hi OBH!
I too, listen to LiveIreland also. Only complaint is that they do not publish a playlist (at least one does not come up on my PC). You have no idea what you are listening to!

Good to have you here! cheers.gif

Hi JP, I guess I should have been clearer. When I load the mp3 stream at LiveIreland.com I get a .pls file downloaded in my Opera transfers. A .pls is a playlist file and whenever I go there, I get maybe an hour of new radio then I get what seems like the same list of songs that I get everytime I go there. If I launch Winamp from my transfers, I get the same list of songs every time. It's like they have an archive connected to a particular .pls file and one of the files I have saved is a list I really like so I often load that particular file and I hear the same list every time. I use a saved shoucast pls file to launch Highlander Radio but it doesn't work the same way, I always get the current stream with that file. My limited IT knowlege prevents me giving you a more technical explanation, I only know what I get, not why. I'm fairly certain it's something to do with the fact that I use Opera and Winamp together which perhaps shows me more information than I would get with IE and MediaPlayer or RealPlayer. I never tried to see what makes up the .pls file, it can't be much because it's a very small file. My guess is it's a URL with some other data but not much. Sorry if I confused you to begin with and probably even more with my attempted explanation. rolleyes.gif
