I thought I would share some interesting facts I learned while researching the history of Cornwall.

Did you know:

In the 6th century, St Piran's Oratory is built, the earliest Christian church in the British Isles.

In the 12th century the game of rugby originated in the Cornish town of Penzance, evolved from the sport of hurling.

In the 13th century (circa. 1250) Michael Blaunpayn, from Cornwall, was the first known satirist.

In the 1646 - Fox's Shipping Agency founded, the oldest in Britian, possible the world.

Be sure to share any you come across.

Durdatha whye!
Good day to you!

Just a little fun fact for those who plan on visiting Cornwall. A stop at Skidden House Hotel in Saint Ives, Cornwall might bring you face to face with a ghost! Skidden House, the oldest Hotel in Saint Ives, chosen by guests the world over, for its quaint charm, for its superb cuisine and the comfort that it offers.

Hmmm! Lots of interesting info here! Thanks Em! I found this at the site link you posted:

1773 - William Bligh discovered bread fruit at Otaheite. Appointed to the Bounty in 1787 he is best remembered for the mutiny on the bounty led by Fletcher Christian in 1789. HMS Pandora was sent in pursuit of the mutineers. Bligh is reported to have planted the first apple tree in Tasmania.

A Cornish link to Tasmania, Tassiecelt's stomping grounds! smile.gif

Durdatha whye!
Good day to you!

Some more interesting facts: Cornwall has been the site where some classic tales, great family movies, and action packed thrillers were made.

Movies like Alfred Hitchcock's 1940 Rebecca, Bram Stoker's Dracula (1979) directed by John Badham, one of the latest James Bond movie Die Another Day (2002), and Disney's 1950 film Treasure Island are just to name a few.
