Best advice I have been given....

Each child is different accept them for who they are.
Do not compare them to some one else.
Each one of us has lessons we must learn, it is painful to wathc but if you interfear what will that child have learned?
Love them unconditionally, each child has the right to be loved.
Accept the Good with the bad, they will learn from your example.
Show them the way do not demand that they do as you say.

One thing I have found to be a great aid in parenting,
practice walking like a cat, silent.

Being a father of now 5 boys. Three of my own, three of my wives.

We have two that are still under 14 years of age, of course they don't always get along, or one is trying to get one over on the other.

I have found through the older boys that walking up quietly and listening to what's going on, not only catching the proper culprit red handed, but has saved myself from wrong accusations as well. And besides, it's fun.

The look on their face when they realize your there, you've heard what was going on and there is NO WAY they can talk their way out of it is priceless!!!

I started doing the whole kung fu , ninja stealth thing too(back when my wife and I were still together) and it WAS great to see the looks on their faces..it also helped when I would hear them making noise then sudden silence.

parents please....do not be afraid to smack your kid when they get out of line! I mean it! When i say this - i of course do not mean to BEAT them, a good spankin' or an open hand schmack on the face is good for your child! usually once you do this, they remember it, and when they get close to crossing that line...don't want another one! While i say this jokingly, i am dead serious! (i got a few spankings in my day, and i turned out fine - granted i was one mischevious hellion growing up!)
put the fear of god in 'em i say! (although i'm not very religious, it's a great saying!)

My sister told me to pick my battles (as in does it really matter if she chooses to wear a pink and yellow poka dot shirt with purple and orange striped shorts at 4)

My commander told me to remain vigilant -- he meant consistent -- and set boundaries. "Kids," he said, "are like privates, they wanna know how far the fence goes and they're gonna walk right up to and look for the holes in it."

Love and care for them always.
Pray constantly for them.
Teach them to seek light and truth. How to research and find their own answers and don't believe everything they are told.
Sometimes no matter how hard it is you need to let go and let them fall.
I love you. Have a good day. Lord please protect my children and keep them safe as they go out into the world.
