Reviewing nouns with a class of freshmen who must have smoked dope for lunch. They are so out of it I'd like to strangle them. I can't tell them that because a teacher is a neighboring community told a kid in weightlifting that if he dropped the bar one more time the teacher would wrap it around his neck and strangle him. The teacher is on administrative leave pending his hearing.

Listening to Rise's Posing As Human CD on my new portable CD player and getting ready to go over and pick up our Market Day order at my old grade school.

BTW, never buy an RCA portable CD player. I've never had good luck with them. Sony too. I bought an RCA yesterday and had to exchange it today. The radio on it worked fine. The CD player worked once. I didn't drop it or anything. The brand I've had the best luck with is Panasonic, which is what I got today.

QUOTE (CelticRose @ 03-Nov-2004, 04:44 PM)
Thanks Mike! I have been going to buy a portable CD player. Thanks for the recommendations!

(ascending to top of nearest soapbox)

When you're at Wally World or Best Buy looking at portable CD players, you'll see a bunch of no-names listed between $14.99 and $39.99.

RESIST THE URGE TO GO CHEAP!

I've had a few of those too. Their effective life of normal use of those is about six months. After that, the sound quality degenerates rapidly. I've found that Panasonic and Aiwa are the best. Their effective use life is about 1 1/2 years. Also, do NOT use the headphones that come with it. When I buy new portable music players, after I've determined that they are in good working order, I take the headphones and place them in the nearest trash receptacle. The cords are too short for me.

(decending from soapbox)

Now, I'm listening to a good instrumental Christmas CD I picked up at Best Buy when I exchanged CD players. The title is Celtic Carols. I was between that and the soundtrack from A Charlie Brown Christmas, which has my favorite version of "Oh Christmas Tree".

I wouldn't mind the Bose TriPort noise-cancelling headphones, but those cost $150. Here's the ones I would recommend:

SonyStyle.com-MDR-W25G Headphones

They'll run you about $15-$20. I have their predecessor, the MDR-W20G, and I have been very happy with the sound.

BTW, I don't really care for the ones that go over the ear. They get pretty funky-smelling after a while walkman.gif . They're not really good for people who like to go for a walk or jog either. In my experience with them, I've hardly been able to hear other sounds (like traffic, for example).
