A southerner moves north.

December 8
5:00 PM. It?s started to snow. The first of the season and the first we?ve seen in years. The wife and I took our hot buttered rums and sat by the picture window, watching the soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful !!!
December 9
We awoke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight. Every tree and shrub was covered with a beautiful white mantle. I shoveled snow for the first time in years and loved it. I did both our driveways and the sidewalk. Later, a city snowplow came by and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved. I waved back and shoveled it again.
December 10
It snowed an additional 5 inches last night and the temperature has dropped to around 11 degrees. Several limbs on the trees and shrubs snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shoveled our driveway again. Shortly afterwards, the snowplow came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is now brownish-gray.
December 11
Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush which soon became ice when the temperature dropped again. Bought snow tires for both cars. Fell on my ass in the driveway, $145.oo to the chiropractor, but nothing was broken. More snow and ice expected.
December 12
Still cold. Sold the wife?s car and bought a 4 x 4 in order to get her to work. Slid into a guardrail anyway and did a considerable amount of damage to the right, rear quarter panel. Had another 8 inches of the white crap last night. Both vehicles covered in salt and crud. More shoveling in store for me today. That !@#$% snowplow came by twice today.
December 13
Two degrees outside. More friggin snow. Not a tree or shrub on our property that hasn?t been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a kerosene heater, which tipped over and nearly burned the house down. I managed to put the flames out, but suffered 2nd degree burns on my hands, and lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows. Car slid on ice on the way to the emergency room and was totaled.
December 14
&%$@#@# white crap keeps on coming down. Have to put on all the clothes we own just to get to the freakin mailbox. If I ever catch the S.O.B. that drives that snowplow, I?ll chew open his chest and rip out his heart. I think he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then comes down the street about 100mph and buries our driveway again. Power still off. The toilet froze and part of the roof has started to cave in.
December 15
Six more f'n inches of snow and f'n sleet and f'n ice and who knows what other kind of f'n white crap fell last night. I wounded the f'n snowplow driver with an ice ax, but he got away. Wife left me. Car won?t start, I think I?m going snow-blind. I can?t move my toes. Haven?t seen the sun in weeks. More snow predicted. Wind chill is -22 f'n degrees.

I?m moving back to South Carolina

The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error. ~John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859

I can relate:
On Jan. 12, 1976, I was in Rochester, MN. When I woke up it was -30 with -60 wind chill and 3 feet of snow. I moved to Memphis shortly thereafter.

Look at the bright side: the snow and cold tend to weed out the "thin blooded" Southerners. laugh.gif

True, but it also seems to be weeding out quite a few native Northerners as well as they seem to be moving here in droves. Ahhh, those wonderful days (and nights) where the summer temps and humidity level are the same. Today for example, 96deg, 93% humidity. Nice and sticky cool.gif

Survival of the fittest. We send all the weak ones south that would probably be killed and eaten.

Normal is a relative term. For some reason it is not a term my relatives use to describe me.

You misunderstand, my grits eating friend. They would've been eaten up north, so we send them south to save them.

Shamalama, haven't you ever had the fun of digging snow tunnels?? Man, have you missed out!! They're actually warm, as long as you don't build them straight into the wind. laugh.gif You need a good snowball fight! By-the-by, that isn't me in the pic. It's our daughter enjoying her creation. You should have seen the Fort our girls made!

Dreamer1, we get our one snowfall once per decade. I built an igloo back in 1982 that was really neat.

Other than that all we get is ice and sleet-stuff. sad.gif
