I found this site on the internet

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/wales/learnwe...h_dictionary.pl

It is a Welsh-English dictionary from the BBC.

What is really cool is that you can hear the words pronounced. What an interesting language.

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.

Elspeth,

It is a good site .. in fact the whole of the BBC Wales site is quite good. I`ve got it bookmarked in work so I am always that little bit closer to my home than I think:)

I personally am learning Scottish gaelic, so I have some interest in all of the Celtic languages. Welsh has always fascinated because it just LOOKS so strange! So many consonants! Maybe after I master Gaelic I'll add Welsh to my tool belt too!

I will have to check out the websites.

I so miss my great grandmother singing in Welsh. She would sit and sing such beautiful sounding songs when I was a child. It is through her that I developed such a desire for all things Welsh.

I can only hope to learn the language.

Hello Faerydreamer -
As you can tell there was a vibrant Welsh forum here at one time but its died out. There are many resources on line for learning. You might also try the group on Yahoo called Welsh Learners. Its a group designed specifically for people learning Welsh and you can ask grammar questions etc. There are several fluent speakers and native speakers who will help you. Welsh is no harder than any other language but it takes persistence to learn it. A great resource for all Welsh language related stuff on line is a bit outdated but still has some good resources:

www.gwybodiadur.co.uk

a Welsh course on line for beginners

http://www.cs.cf.ac.uk/fun/welsh/

Post here if you need more info or have any questions, but that should give you a good place to start. Join the Yahoo group, one thing you'll get which I guarantee you'll need --- encouragement! Best of luck!

Thank you. I did sign up to join the Yahoo group. I also bookmarked the webpage for the online course. I am going to get started with it tomorrow when my brain is fresh.

Thanks again.
