Yes, I meant within, not at least. Though, at least is good for other reasons.

Anyway, 30 minutes Canadian, which is about 4 hours US. We're a bit slow up here. wink.gif

Yes we must have PRIORITIES in locating a liquor or beer outlet.

Using the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina as an example, all of the camping areas within 30 minutes of the festival are already reserved for the festival. In fact on games days, the closest campgrounds are more than thirty minutes even by trams because of the traffic jams.

For a reunion to work there, we would have to make a mass reservation to reserve a section of a local campground a year or so ahead of time to make sure that everybody could get into the same place. Otherwise, you would be at the mercy of whatever campground available.

By the way, the games are great. The mountain laurel is in bloom and the mountains are beautiful. These games are highly recommended.

I think that the ability to get a reunion campground within thirty minutes is important.

Out in a suburb of Chicago called Oak Forest, there is a facility called Chicago Gaelic Park that has an Irish Fest every Memorial Day (US) weekend. Chicago is very accessible by air (O'Hare and Midway), car (Interstates 55, 57, 80, 90 & 94), bus (Greyhound) and rail (Amtrak). There are several chain motels that have meeting areas. There are many bars, restaurants, and even a brewpub in that vicinity, so food & drink are well taken care of. As far as activities go, there are two minor league baseball teams in the area, the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League and the Joliet JackHammers of the Northern League. There are two riverboat casinos in Joliet, Harrah's Joliet and Empress Casino Joliet.

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

I wasn't really pushing Grandfather Mountain for the reunion. I was promoting our local Games for those interested. king.gif

Grandfather Mountain, besides not being central to the US, is not particularly convenient to get to. The nearest airport of any size is Charlotte, which a distance away. Basically, you would have to rent a car.

Annabelle-

Here are the two camping facilities I've been able to find so far that are within a 30-mile radius of Oak Forest, Illinois:

Windy City Campground

Kankakee River State Park

There is also a rest area on I-57 that has sanitary dumps for RVs. It is located on both sides of I-57 at mile marker 222, about halfway between Monee & Peotone. I have included the map attached below. It is #14.user posted image
