Has anyone thought of a gathering at Grandfather Mountain in NC?  I'll be making the drive there as it is, and it's a kick-butt fabulous event.

Sehkmet,
Is there a festival there?
I would be interested in hearing about it. It would be relatively easy for me to get to..

The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games are held in July. Their website is http://www.gmhg.org/.

I know people who have gone to them in the past and say that it is a great festival.

There is an easier way to remember grandfather mt!

It's always the second week of July!

Stone Mt is always the 3rd Weekend of Oct.

Hartwell Highland Games is always the first weekend of Oct

and so on and so on!

Thank goodness the Scottish stuff in my head isn't crap!

So Sister Annabelle, have you decided if kilts are Optional or Mandatory?

Do I need to start taking my bleached, bony legs to a tanning parlor, or not?

Becky, Annabelle and I have received very little feedback and input and we also keep going to fests (next one is Valley Forge, Pa. Feb. 18-20) and hardly anyone from cr shows up (yes, we know you had a legit excuse for missing Bethlehem). It's hard to get many ideas and a feel about a fest, when it's only a small handful of folks who attend. We try to post a fest well in advance, to give everyone a chance to make plans to attend. Most of the fests that have been posted were within the designated area that we feel most listeners are within reach of, with the exception of Dunedin, Florida.

We attended a few this past year and the only one that ranks extremely high, is Bethlehem. Hard to dispute that the largest fest in North America, has everything that is required. We both feel that this will be the place that will be used in 2008. (We'll be there every year, even if it's not a CR event).

We will be attending Jack Frost Celtic Fest in the Poconos, Memorial Day weekend but this one really doesn't meet the requirements. Just going for the fun of it.

If anyone has any suggestions for a fest to attend, post it, so others can attend. Take notes of what is there and take many pictures and post them on that same thread.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get to as many this year as I would like. Most of my vacation time will be spent in Ireland, this April. I'll try not to enjoy myself to much. laugh.gif

Count me in!!! I'm not sure where'll I'll be in 4 yrs but I will still be up here in Albert,Canada.

The only thing I ask is that it's near an airport since it would take way to long to drive and I'd probually end up flying!! I would also need someplace where there's a hotel since I don't know anyone down there!! wink.gif

Having an airport close by and hotels were a requirement, along with others, we had for whatever fest we ended up. Bethlehem meets are requirements 100%. The only one we have found, so far.

We stayed at the Bethlehem Hampton Inn and it was rather nice and reasonable priced. Swimming pool and free breakfast was a big plus.

The local airport is 4 miles away and is the Lehigh Valley Airport (ABE). Some travel pages may still list it as Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport. The name was to long, so they changed it last year to the Lehigh Valley Airport.

WHEW! I finally sat down and read through this whole thing......and of course it is WAY past my bedtime. Anyway, I wish I could help in some capacity, but I am feeling a little isolated out here in SoCal. When this event gets a little closer, however, please feel free to call on me for help organizing.

First of all, I think this is a very good idea and also a very healthy one...the only bad thing I've noticed are the travel options. Granted, we have 3 years, I think it would be a stretch for some...not so much for others. It would be kind of cool if we had a couple different events, perhaps one for the eastern half of the country, another for the western.

It sounds exciting and rewarding...where's the keg gonna be? wink.gif

Plenty of beer tents and whiskey tasting at the Bethlehem Fest, plus, Bethlehem Brew Pub is right up the street. Finding a beer won't be a problem.

You can figure the get together is probably going to be at Bethlehem in Sept of 2008. It has everything everyone needs.

Also it has a great airport for our international friends.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I'll be finished with school, have a good job (if I keep my goals in focus and work to acheive them without faltering) and if my prayers are answered by the Lord above, the girl I love now will be in my life permanently.

How is the reunion going? Has anything been set in stone? Is there a 2008 Celtic Radio Reunion committee yet?

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
