Nick's unit was sent to Iraq this week. They've been in Kuwait since January and I'd hoped that he'd stay there. However, I forgot how wasteful the Army can be. It seems that Camp New York in Kuwait is a holding camp and now Nick is in another holding camp. I should be glad for any time he is not riding around in a Humvee being a target...

Anyway, please add him to your prayers. If anyone wants to send encouragement to his unit, I'll forward it to them. I think it means a lot to them. All of my friends have not only wished him well, but said to tell him thank you. Not everybody supports the US involvement in Iraq (who does?), but I'm still proud of Nick and all the men & women who went because it was their duty to serve.

Attached is a picture of my baby in Kuwait. In the background is the tents in Camp New York.

Nick will be in our prayers. Even those of us who oppose the War, support the troops. thumbs_up.gif

I certainly understand your concern. It would be very scary for me if my son were there. I will definitely pray for your son's safety. God Bless.

I have two sons - the elder is 18 years old - and I asked myself so often how I would feel if he had to do his duty there as so many other young men...As Maisky said; whatever we may think about the War we certainly support the troops!
Your son will be in my prayers.

Corrigan, I will definetly keep your son in my prayers. My son, Matthew is with the 82nd Airbourne in the Army. He is due to leave for Iraq after July. He is in Artillery and will be going over to help keep the peace. I really do understand how you feel. Nick will be in my prayers til he's back on US soil.

American's who do not support the war usually do support the military men and women of which I'm glad they do. Everyone here in the USA owes their support to them cause they help to keep us a strong nation and their serving our country enables them to disagree with any political situation.

It's kind of like hate the sin, love the sinner motto. Our milltary personnel do an outstanding job in maintaining a free society for the rest of us.

Tell Nick he and his platoon are at the top of my "prayer list" til they touch down back home..

Thanks!

Annabelle, I hope for both our son's sakes that the whole mess is over soon. Is it your son who is making you a gramma? For me, it's my daughter and, Thank Heavens!, she and her family live here in Sarasota. Nick & his fiancee plan to move here when he gets out too. I count myself very lucky...

Good luck to your son,

Lorelei

No it's my oldest son that's going to have the baby.

It's my baby of the triplets that's in the military.

I wish my kids lived closer

Annabelle, I will keep your son in my prayers also. I can only image how scary it must be to have your baby in harm's way. My oldest is nearly old enough to join the military, something I would encourage him to do. It was the best decision I ever made. Unfortunately, that carries inherent risks.

Be strong and of good courage and trust in the Lord to keep your son, and Corrigan's son, safe.

Corrigan, I have a cousin who is stationed in Camp New York also. Ryan is a helicoptor mechanic and also fills in as a gunner on the helicoptor. Ryan hasn't been given orders to where they are going yet.

If anyone would like to send packages over to help them out, you can mail it to:

Commanding Officer of HMLA 167
UNit 77021
FPO AE 09509-7021

That is the CO of Ryan's unit but everything gets distributed throughout the unit and the units share with each other.

Things to send:

toilet paper
razor blades
shaving creme
soap
writing paper, envelopes
gum
hard candy (remember, they are in the desert)
anti-perspirent
music cd's
BATTERIES, any size
portable cameras
sunglasses
etc.

Nothing perishable, cakes, cookies, chocolate etc.
Water or juices isn't a good idea. The weight of it creates problems shipping.

And don't forget a simple letter. Just send it to the CO and put "for any soldier". You can include pictures of you or where you are from and let them know that your thinking of them.

Lorelei and Annabelle,

We'll keep both of your sons (and your families) in our prayers, too. We know what it's like to be worrying about loved ones in the military during wartime, and we will always support the troops, wherever they are. Please give them our heartfelt thanks, and may they come home safely to you all soon!

Karen

Thank you, Thank you so much everybody!!!

I will pass on your prayers and thanks to Nick & his buds. There were 2 things Nick said he needed:

Cheap Sunglasses, plain, non-mirrored, Men-in-Black or Aviator
Lotion, lot's of lotion.

He described being there as like the beach on a windy day, the kind where it's so windy that sand is flying everywhere and everybody packs up and goes home. I thought the description particularly fitting...

I have more stuff to send him, but he doesn't know where he's going to be or when he'll get there, sigh... so I'm waiting for the phone call and keeping my cell phone charged.
