Hi, my name is Karen and I kill plants. My latest victim was a bamboo. I am, however, having decent luck rooting an ivy. Of course, I haven't actually touched it. I had the children do it. Apparently they have not inherited the black thumb.

Welcome, Karen, to CelticRadio.

Always happy to welcome other gardeners suffering from black thumb disease to this site. smile.gif I'm not sure if you are aware of how wide spread this is. You may think that your ivy is safe because you have not touched it. However, be aware of the known fact that black thumb disease is often passed down to one's own children. Sometimes, it doesn't show itself until children are grown.

Well, perhaps, your children will be more fortunate than my own dear daughter. No plant is safe at her house. sad.gif

Good luck, Rosemary, with your new green houseplant.

You know, I just realized that I might be a fraud! I believe that I may have a bit of green on one thumb! tongue.gif I remembered that I have a GREEN plant that I have had for almost 15 years . I know...... I can hardly believe it myself. biggrin.gif I have no idea what it is, but my kids gave it to me for mother's day. I am truly amazed at the abuse it takes. It is usually ignored until I notice a lot of brown leaves, then I snip at it and water it. It gets put outside on the porch in the warm weather and occassionnally might get a drink if the wind is blowing in the right direction when it rains. I think I transplanted it once about 5 or 10 years ago. unsure.gif Anyway, the point is......I do have a real live houseplant in my house. rolleyes.gif AND........it does look pretty good......honest!

So, see everyone, theres hope for us all!!! wink.gif

Rose really should list herself as a RECOVERING Black Thumb..
as shes has an Amarilis that is doing well !

This fourm is for helping ALL of you recover !
SO ask questions, post your ideas, we can all rejoyce at your success..
and be there for your failures...

I don't really have house plants ..
I do grow herbs all winter.. for cooking
At the Holidays I force Paper Whites and have a house FULL of Amarilis ..
I do better with out door plants .. smile.gif

So , get in the dirt , make mistakes, maybe kill a few plants,,
heck, we do that everytime we eat salad !

You never know, until you try !
Let's get growing ...

In Service to the Dream,
Paula

Oh, wait, I just remembered. I am able to grow daffodils and iris outside, but I don't actually touch them after I put the bulbs in the ground so perhaps the bulbs are safe from the black thumb?

Paula, you can add me back to the black thumb! The amarilis might be doing fine, but I have already killed the new green house plant. I forget its name, but either watered it too much or not enough! I give up! sad.gif

Mmmm......I'll have to try that. I do know better than to sing to them. I think I've actually seen the leaves cringe when I tried that! rolleyes.gif

Hey, how did a green thumb get in here? Don't they have to leave their green thumbs at the door? biggrin.gif

QUOTE (CelticRose @ 25-Jul-2004, 04:59 PM)
O'siyo Freekenney!

I don't know if your cacti are indoor or outdoor or how big or small they are, but I was told you are only supposed to water them once a month. Small indoor only a tablespoonful. If that tells you anything. Glad you got one coming back to life! wink.gif

O'siyo CelticRose,
Yikes! unsure.gif NO wonder I almost 'killed' off my beautiful cactus plant..I was defintely watering it too much..I don't really consider it an indoor or outdoor cactus because in the summer months I put it outdoors to enjoy the weather but, in the colder months I move it indoors and it does beautifully! She is about 3 foot tall as of now with 3 cacti's attached to one large one..make sense? unsure.gif Oh well, she is a beauty~~ biggrin.gif Ni Ya We for the advice and advice that will be followed closely smile.gif Have a blessed and peaceful day and eve biggrin.gif
