Or funny-woman, for that matter?

I absolutely love James Thurber ('The Catbird Seat', 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty')! The term paper I most enjoyed writing in college was an exploration of the women in his stories; talk about a love/hate relationship, some of those gals were maddening! But lovable too...

--------------------
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king..."

Lewis Grizzard! One of Georgia's own... Didn't he have the best titles for his books too, like "Shoot Low Boys They're Riding Shetland Ponies" or "Elvis is Dead and I Don't Feel So Good Myself and "My Daddy Was A Pistol and I'm the Son of a Gun".

Ah, I miss Lewis still. Just a couple of weeks ago I visited the Blue Willow Inn in Social Circle, and they have a Lewis Grizzard Room there with an article or two of his framed to read, a watercolor of his beloved Lab 'Catfish' plus some other tributes to him. The Inn appreciates him because when they were first getting established as a restaurant, he ate there numerous times then wrote about how wonderful their food is in the Atlanta Journal newspaper; their business blossomed afterwards.

I remember reading many of his books during my college days. "Cat's Cradle" made me laugh out loud at the end, which seemed like an odd response recalling it later on! I never cared too much for his other works... but I liked the way he always had a catch-phrase that the main character used.

Douglas Adams for me! His style was very python-esque fish.gif, but you have to admit that the man was brilliant (may he rest in peace crybaby.gif . He had so much humor to give)

O'siyo,
I have to say Kurt Vonnegut; I just love reading his work..a favorite quote of mine is, 'I didn't get to choose my ancestors, and I look upon my brain and the rest of my body as a house I inhabit which was built long before I was born'. rolleyes.gif
~~ I also have to mention David Brenner. 'I Think There's A Terrorist In My Soup: How To Survive Personal and World Problems with Laughter-Seriously'..dry sense of humor and really entertaining..
