I highly second that recommendation for Charles de Lint... I just finished reading his "Forests of the Heart," and I was completely enthralled by it. A fascinating combination of Celtic, Native American, and Latin American mythologies, and his writing is just marvelous! Now if only I could get my hands on his other books...

I remember when I read the Song of Albion Trilogy I had to cry several times and especially at the end...the end is awesome ! Oh my... and I also remember that I thought how a MAN has been able to write in such a subtle way...

I know exactly what you are saying! I was really mad for days about what happened to Llew after i finished it the first time. And when I finally bought them i read them all again in a day. You couldn't get me away from them! smile.gif

I just got out a Stephan Donaldson book from the Library. Does anyone know if he fantasy is any good?

Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in quiet,
Christ in danger,
Christ in the heart of every man who think of me,
Christ in the mouth os everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

Stephen Donaldson is awesome. He has a couple of trilogies. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeleiver, and The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Great stuff. He also did a parody book called Kingdom for Sale. Never read that one, though.

Someone asked if anyone had read Terry Brooks. I've read the entire Shanarra series. The first few were good, but the last few were unbelievable. The last, I think 4 are a continuous story.

I just finished reading "The Three Sisters" by Rebecca Locksley..it was really good! I haven't been able to find any other books by her though... wink.gif
The Halfblood cronicles by Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton, I thought was really good...
And so was In Legend Born, by Laura Resnick...I couldn't put it down....but I don't know if you would categorize that as fantasy or scifi..I think it was more fantasy though.. king.gif

There was fantasy BT (Before Tolkien) and I do not meen ER Burroughs. My favorite fantasy authors wrote high fantasy before JRRT.

James Branch Cabell Jurgen and the whole Storisende series. These fantasies have their own cosmology and theology. The gods are powerful, if limitted, and arbitrary. The hardcover editions are beautifully illustrated by masters of illustration and are worth the price of admission.

ER Eddison The Worm Ouroboros A beautifully crafted tale of the reign of a king.

Lord Dunsany Pick any work.

HP Lovecraft Cthulu, anyone.

James Branch Cabell, E.R. Eddison, Lord Dunsany, Dara Joy, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Steven Lawhead, David Eddings, C.J. Cherryh.

You should guard your sea-fire and war-god's wine better.
With that the shaker of the wound-flaming sword, feeder of wolves, erickbloodax returns to his sea-bull and sets a course across the whale road, destroyer of timbers to the nearest used book store.

P.S. Pat O'Shea, "The Hounds of the Morrigan" a very good book based on Celtic folk lore.

I just looked at this string and can't believe that no one has mention MArgaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Thye have got to be my all time favorite authors.

Dragon lance Chronicles (the original and several furthering the world of Krynn)

Death Gate Cycle

Rose of the Prophet trilogy

Well of Darkness

Dark sword

I am also reading Robert jordon's Wheel of time. Praying that the next two books are going to pick up (yes he said there are only two more, if we are not counting prequals, and the next one is not suppose to come out until next year)
