QUOTE (Cailiosa @ Jan 31 2004, 05:37 PM)

Stephen Lawhead is also one of my favorites. I enjoyed his take on the Aurthurian legends -- not the typical story one normally hears. I also like his Song of Albion series.

Ahhh, good to meet a kindred soul wink.gif biggrin.gif ... I love the Song of Albion trilogy to the bits... smile.gif

Hi, Elly;
oh, I'm inconsolable for my delay unsure.gif ...,please forgive a really old woman tongue.gif ...
Aon is right wink.gif(hi, Aon!). The Darkover series is awesome and you'll be busy for a while as there are around 32 or 33 books written by MZB herself. You should give them a try.
If you liked the "Mists of Avalon" you may also want to read "The Forest House" describing the events before "The mists..." . It is the first book of the trilogy. The second is "Lady of Avalon" and the third "The Mists of Avalon" you've already read.

Another book I like a lot is "Heartlight", a really thrilling book and very different to many of her others. It is the last book she wrote, fantasy but so VERY close to historical events and influences of the Nazi Regime in present days. Really thrilling!

This should be enough to do for you for the next one or two weeks tongue.gif

never managed to read all DO novels yet but they rarely keep me busy for more than a few hours... they just absolutely get to me and I can't stop reading once I started.

Mercedes Lackey is writing the newer DO books, she has cooperated with MZB before in 2 other books (together with Diana L Paxson). I have no clue what they are called but I loved them...

MZB published a series called Sword and Sorceress which featured short stories of different writers (that's how I got to the Oathbound series by Mercedes Lackey) predominantly occupied with women in fantasy. At the time when she started it every woman in Fantasy was rather C*n*n style and usually a lesbian..

Hi Gabby biggrin.gif Thank you for that information, I didn`t realise `Mists` was part of a trilogy, no worries about the delay, getting auld comes to us all eh tongue.gif I`ll have to try and get those books you have mentioned thumbs_up.gif

I rented the video `Mists of Avalon` I did enjoy it very much, here in Australia it was released directly to video so not sure if elsewhere it was a TV movie or series. thumbs_up.gif

Thank you too Aon, will have a look around and see if I can get these books biggrin.gif

All the best, Elly laugh.gif

All of you fantasy readers have GOT to read Charles DeLint! If you like the SeRRated Edge series that Mercedes Lackey and others did, you will like him. He does the best version of urban fantasy I've ever read.

You've met another kindred soul. The Song of Albion trilogy are my favourite fantasy novels. They are incredible! Especially the end - One of the few books that actually made me cry.. smile.gif
Terry Goodkind is also a great fantasy author. His Sword of Truth novels are definitely worth a read. just finished the latest one and enjoyed it immensely once again
Is it just me or is David Eddings a horrible and predictable writer when he co-writes with his wife?
props to fantasy!

Hi, kelaorqu;

nice to meet you! smile.gif I remember when I read the Song of Albion Trilogy I had to cry several times and especially at the end...the end is awesome ! Oh my... and I also remember that I thought how a MAN has been able to write in such a subtle way... unsure.gif

I never read a book of Terry Goodkind though I heard and read some good critics. I should give it a try, eh? smile.gif

Anyone like Terry Brooks, David Eddings or Heinlein?

I am a Heinlein fan, even though he is more straight Sci Fi. Mercedes Lackey is my favorite for pure fanatasy, with Ann McCaffery close behind. Good stuff. biggrin.gif
