QUOTE (Siusaidh Blues @ Jan 16 2004, 09:24 AM)
I don't sign my full name on artwork very often, but instead put SGGardner - I got tired of getting writer's cramp when I was signing stacks of reproductions before putting them out to sell way back when.

Ah, to have that problem rolleyes.gif

I wish I could decide what I want to do. My kids want me to use my regular name. I thought of using my maiden name, but whenever I practiced writing it, it looked like my mom's name. *shudder* Not that I don't love my mom, but you've got to get out from under the wing someday. My writing is so personal I don't want to be associated with anyone else. And If I used my husband's name then I would be associated with my in-laws who I have nothing in common with and don't even know I write. Plus the name is Polish and I'm not Polish.
I don't think I can use a made up name, it has to have a real connection. But I have had the same last initial all my life, even though with two different names. I mean I've already scoped out my spot on the library shelf. biggrin.gif

What to do, what to do. Like I really need to decide anyway. It isn't as if I was sitting on offers from 5 publishing houses afterall. laugh.gif

Maybe I could use my first name as my last name? Have to think about that.

I do not write, but in my art I use a sigil of my initials. That is as close to a pen name as I get.

Elspeth, I have noticed that a lot of authors have two names. Like Nora Rogers also goes by J.D.Robb. Figure that one out! but anyway. Maybe you could use your first and middle name only. A lot of people do that too. smile.gif

Oops............maybe you can come up with a new one! I mean you are the artist and can come up with an artist name that suits your personality and who you want to be as the author! That's part of creative license. Maybe not totally honest but it could be your artist name! Just a suggestion! smile.gif

We were discussing this on the ride home today and my husband suggested using Paige. It was my grandfather's name and I always wanted to use it for one of the kids, but if never worked out. So, I 'm thinking of using this as a last name, keeping my last initial consistent. So far so good. Then he throws out an all new name.

-Paige Turner - lol.gif

Is that too funny or what? Actually I like it. If I ever write a mystery I have to use that name.

Elspeth Paige is a lovely name! Make it even more special because it belonged to a family member.

Paige Turner? Too funny! laugh.gif

Uhmmm.... unsure.gif Elspeth isn't my real name. rolleyes.gif But it has been cool to create a name here for it tells me I think I could use a pen name.

Paige Turner is really sticking with me. I like it, corney as it is. laugh.gif

'Paige Turner' is WONderful - use it, use it!! What a clever idea.

I have an artist friend who has a really good name, its real too but suits her so perfectly it would have been worth inventing: Jane Lavender!

(Remember her, Celtic Rose??)

I did an internet search and I guess I won't be using the name Paige Turner. Not only has another author already taken it, it apparently is also the name of one who prefers to be photographed sans clothing.

Back to the drawing board.

I think I have decided to leave my name as is. That was who I was in my mind when I wrote my novels and to change it now is just strange. Also, my husband's name is Polish and I discovered the word for 'write' in Polish is similiar to his name. Guess it was just meant to be.

Sounds really good to me, Elspeth! You have to go with your gut feeling. That is what being an artist is all about! thumbs_up.gif
