I got to meet Chuck Norris and Benny the Jet at a kickboxing match in Hollywood once. Both very personnable sorts. My friend from Japan was fighting in the main event that night. In person, Chuck is much larger than he appears in the films.

I now see that it is not just the voice in my head but that the Peckery really does sound like a "Sock Monkey" how about that for the name of a fun pop cover band. Moxie and the Sock Monkeys?

He is about 6'2" and fairly broad. It is easy to forget he was a "heavy weight" champion.

I'm surprised. I always thought he was kinda short. At least that's what they told me.

A guy who I always thought was taller was one of the presenters at the Oscars the other night: John Cusack. I met him once at a White Sox game when I was in 7th grade. I was easily a head taller than him and I hadn't finished growing yet. I guess I thought he'd be taller because, up until Eight Men Out, he usually played a character that had a younger brother or sister.

He looks shorter on tv because he is so wide!

*Perhaps the one characteristic most responsible for Norris' success as a fighter can best be described as eternal optimism. His physical size (5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 pounds) and natural coordination were never particularly impressive, and although he always played sports while growing up in Oklahoma and California, he spent much of that time warming the bench. But Norris is a Pisces (March 10, 1940) and thus-if you take any stock in astrology-a wishful dreamer (and, yes, gullible). In fact, he is so skillful a dreamer that as a fighter he would actually fantasize about his matches days in advance of a tournament. "When I fought a person like Joe or Skipper or somebody really good, I would create fight scenes with them in my mind: OK, what are his strong points? What is he really good at? What can I do to defend against that?*
This comes from by Bob McLaughlin Web site.. Just go to Ask Jeeves and type in ..
How Tall is Chuck Norris..

I did'nt think he was that tall..........

Thanks Paula! You confirmed my thoughts on Chuck Norris. I always heard he wasn't that tall either. However, I went on www.IMDb.com and it said he was 5'10, but then that site tends to get things wrong sometimes. I vote for 5'9! thumbs_up.gif

I posted the TALLEST they said he was, I found two sites that put him at 5'7...
I know he is short, I saw him pretty close at a Hall of Fame dinner once..
And I am not tall wink.gif

Paula! You crack me up! That is too funny! Actually I had always been told he was 5'7" but didn't want to argue with anybody here. I was shocked to see on the site I looked up for him to be 5'10" eek.gif
