I just saw Pirates of the caribbean - dead Man's Chest and I don't want to ruin the plot for anyone but........ It was pretty good.

They've ruined as much as possible already with the pre show interviews and trailers.

I have watched several movies lately. One of them was "Crash." It was good, very intense, but not the Los Angeles that I grew up in and knew. It may be different now. Really made you think though, eh? Also been watching some westerns: Broken Trail and Open Range. Was really very good, I thought. Saw Wedding Crashers and that was hysterical.

Next time, don't buy the big vat of pop. Do what I do. Bring your own in. Do you really think some sixteen-year-old kid cares if you're not buying the $5 vat of pop?

I found a nice outlet for chee-pee older dvds, and I'm catching up on stuff I never saw during first runs. One of them is "Empire of the Sun", the Spielberg film about the Shanghai americans and british who were interned in China by the Japanese. It's from the point of view of an 11 year old boy (this movie introduced Christian Bale as a child actor -- what an amazing performance!). I found it very moving and complex, without simple ideas about enemies and friends. And I also watched "Twelve Monkeys" -- bizarre futuristic time-travel kind of thing, directed by Terry Gilliam (whom I love). Slightly muddled story (cleared up in 2nd viewing), but visually very interesting, and stunning performance by Bruce Willis, f you're a fan. Also a truly bizarre and interesting performance by Brad Pitt, playing a manic delusional spoiled rich boy who wants to destroy humanity.

More movie news....I have seen a couple of times now ads on Time Warner Cable that they're bringing back some of the classics in HD. Might get a chance to watch some of them at some point.

I finally got to see Tristan & Isolde. I enjoyed the film. I didn't expect that ending. I thought there were a few good sword fighting scenes. Very good drama...

I've maintained a warm fuzzy feeling for David Bowie ever since I saw Labyrinth as a kid. A few years ago my sister gave me the DVD for Christmas. I have to admit, I've probably watched it half a dozen times since then. Mmmm.

Sadly, most of his other movies are far less enjoyable.

The last movie I watched was Wilby Wonderful. It's Canadian indie about the kooky small-town residents of the fictional island of Wilby, Nova Scotia. It was a bit slow at times but still very cute and sweet in a dark comedy way. The main plot concerns a melancholy man who is trying to commit suicide but is repeatedly interrupted/rescued by his neighbors. Sounds morbid I know, but it actually ends up being heartwarming.

I went and saw Clerks II last night with my girl friend. We loved it! If you're a Kevin Smith fan make sure to check this one out.
