Last night I say "The Santa Clause" with Tim Allen. To me it will be another Christmas Classic. biggrin.gif

My brother and I fulfilled our Christmas season tradition of popping a huge bowl of popcorn, settling down in front of his big-screen TV, and watching Zulu Dawn and Zulu back to back. I guess you could call these our "Christmas Classics." death.gif laugh.gif

Lt. Chard: "The army doesn't like more than one disaster in a day."
Lt. Bromhead: "Looks bad in the newspapers and upsets civilians at their breakfast."

Went to see "Master and Commander" the other day. It was a great movie. A few historical inaccuracies of the type my wife just says "So what, shut up!" about. But a decent adaptation of the novel. thumbs_up.gif

Just my tuppence.

I just went and saw "The Missing" with Tommy Lee Jones. It was pretty good. Had some slow parts, and some parts that make you want to jump under your seat. Biggest gripe I had was it made the Indians look like a bunch of voodoo magic workers.

Andylucy,

Now your talking! My friend and I do that about every other year! Rourke's Drift, and Islandwana back to back! We usualy forgo the popcorn, and imbibe Guiness, or Yuengling instead. Classic flicks! I have been looking for them on DVD.

Eamon,
I picked up "Zulu" in the bargain bin at WalMart on DVD for $4.99. wink.gif I don't believe that "Zulu Dawn" has ever been released on DVD, so we watch it on VHS. If ever I find it on DVD, I will snatch it up forthwith. biggrin.gif

If DVDs count, then right now I am watching "Apocalypse Now" with Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper and a very young Laurence Fishburne (he was only 15 and very scrawny at that time).

I don't know about you, but here's how I'd rank the best Vietnam movies:

1. "Full Metal Jacket"
2. "Apocalypse Now"
3. "Good Morning, Vietnam" (my favorite Robin Williams movie)
4. "Platoon"
5. "The Boys of Company 'C' "

Police Squad, Top Secret, Hot Shots, Airplane, The Zucker Brothers made some outrageously funny movies. Parody is a lost art!

FINALLY!!

Another who knows Top Secret!!! I was in college when that movie came out and I can still see my friend and I in the theater seeing the preview for Top Secret. We laughed so hard in that 3 minutes we both had tears running down our faces. We actually got it out and watched it again a few months ago and surprisingly, it was still funny.

Know the part where he plays the guitar and talks about being separated from his mother at the semi-annual Washington's Birthday sale at the department store?
The creators of the movie wanted him to practice on the guitar, to make it look convincing. So, being the consummate actor he is, he practiced and practiced to learn to play the song - and they let him. Then when he got it down, he went to them to let them know he could do it. They looked at him and said never mind, they weren't going to do it that way. They had set him up, never intending for him to play, they were just messing with him. (it was much funnier when he told the story unsure.gif )

I love AIRPLANE too. One of my favorites is the lights on the runway. biggrin.gif

Once I can get near the Walmart again I will pick up Zulu. I have seen a few copies of Zulu Dawn on DVD but I think it was the English version, which will not play in our players on this side of the pond (unless it is a universal player, which mine is not)

You could even watch Shaka Zulu first, and make a day out of it!

I just bought the extended version of LOTR TTT and I have watched that. I have even watched all of the extras. (Had plenty of time sitting on the couch with the flu)

Oh so sorry to hear you were sick, RavenWing. I hope you feel better. But glad you got to watch TTT! And the extras too? I haven't watched them yet. Wasn't it great having all the extra scenes? thumbs_up.gif

I saw a wonderful oldie last night - You Can't Take it With You. Huge cast of the biggies of the time. Great message like It's a Wonderful Life. I think it's another Capra film. I didn't listen too close, was sick on the couch like RavenWing.
Funny watching Lionel Barrymore as the good guy with Jimmy Stewart when later he becomes the baddie of IAWL.
