I finally rented "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" and I agree with SisterKnight - it was intense! Certainly a well thought out story and excellent acting. Even though I thought I had a fair bit of knowledge about that time in Ireland's history, it sure has a bigger impact seeing the battles than just reading about them.

Movies - Boondog Saints - indigenous Irish thugs of Boston striking out against the Russian Mob -

It really brought back the fear and adventure that I experienced during the years
that I lived in the Boston area - late seventies, early eighties, riding around the subway when the last exit on the Red Line was BrainTree !

If you like beautiful scenery - check out the movie "Waking Ned Divine" it's a fun
story about what happens in a quaint little seaside village when someone wins the big sweepstakes / lottery. Definitely one the whole family could enjoy, and the cinematography is so good that it will make you dream.

Okay I hope this post works !

Hello braveharp!

Thought I'd take this time to welcome you to Celtic Radio, even though I see you've been about the site for nearly a year, but I didn't remember you posting in Introductions. No matter though, it's good to read your posts and I hope you're having a good time here and getting your questions answered!

Best wishes of the season! bye1.gif

I love the Boondock Saints! My fav line is "Now that Duffy has relinquished the King bonehead crown I see we have a heir to the throne..." I say that to my daughters friends all the time. They love it so much they actuall made a crown and take it with them so they can pass it around when someone does or says something stupid.

August Rush was good -- you have to be able to suspend disbelief, not about the bond and the brilliant ending, but about what it takes to make a musician. But still -- lovely. The Hightower kid is going to make a really deep and interesting young adult actor. He's right on the brink.

Fred Claus and Enchanted were both a whole lot of fun. Enchanted is definitely one big New York sight gag, but since I live there I found it extra droll.

Watched Amazing Grace last night. Very good movie. Adds a whole new meaning to the song.

We just joined NetFlix last week, because we realized there are a lot of movies we want to see, but don't necessarily want to buy, which is what we usually do, and after I checked it out and got some feedback, I'm having fun with it. I watched "Meet The Robinson's" yesterday, which was very good for a toon movie, not your typical disney fare, and "The Devil Wears Prada," read the book and had to see the movie, which was pretty good, we had Live Free or Die Hard, "Ratatouille" and Fantastic 4, for Thanksgiving and they were very good. I've got Blood and Chocolate (werewolf movie) on order next as well as The Santa Clause 3 and will be adding Pirates 4 this weekend. I'm taking advantage of it to see movies I otherwise wouldn't get to see.

We did buy Transformers , which I absolutely loved (it spent 2 weeks straight in the DVD player) and Spiderman 3, which was also pretty good. I tend to not be like a lot of people who complain that a movie isn't realistic enough. I don't go to a movie for realism, I go to escape from life and I suspend my disbelief and just enjoy the ride.
