QUOTE (hilander1299 @ Dec 11 2003, 01:53 AM)
I wear the kilt with pride .... wind gusts aside .... it is all a part of heritage is it not ????

I wear a kilt for two reasons:

1. I reenact a private soldier of the 42nd RHR during the early part of the American Revolution. The kilt was demonstrably a part of their uniform. See the photo of me in my profile.

2. At other times, I just enjoy the feel of wearing a modern kilt. I am primarily Irish and English in extraction, with no discernable Scottish ancestry. I just enjoy the option of wearing a piece of apparel that is comfortable and, let's face it, different.

I don't need to be of Scottish ancestry to wear a kilt, anymore than a Scot would have to prove his lineage from an American cowboy or gold miner to wear blue jeans. I just like to wear it. wink.gif

And by the way, a good kilt pin will help with those windy days. biggrin.gif

Just my tuppence.

Andy

Often my wife will ask me to wear my kilt to some function or other, like to the symphony or such. She says that I wear a kilt well. All she has ever said about my other clothing choices is "Don't dress like a street urchin!" Must be something about a guy in a skirt! naughty.gif biggrin.gif

Wow. What a touchy subject.. and I thought this forum was supposed to be about religion, or the choices of religion by others.
An to think some are offended by clothing. Well, to shame marilyn manson!
Want to talk about clothing, how about ms. spears or ms. aguila's choice before they turned 18?

Anyways,... here's some food for your brain...
The Christmas tree comes from the pagan tradition.. decorations and all. Except I don't think they hacked it down and brought it inside.
Halloween is really a celtic new year before the gregorian calendar was in total place.
Roodmas is really Beltane.
and do you think "Noel" came from "Yule" - pronouced "EWE-elle" ??
Talk about supression.. and depression...

yours as always,

I have great respect for the followers of any religion, and I love all people, and the "sanctity" of anyones belief....If I get an inkling that a person is adding a comment because they think that the religion is hollywood cool, I will question them. angel_not.gif

I am locking this topic since it seems RW did not moderate it to stay on course. As of today 9/21/04 it is read only; I could do worse and remove the off topic posts, but I will let them stand for all to see.
