read last week that the unions had pledged 80 M for the Nov. election. Industry has set aside a reputed 100 M. Add the private interest groups, the individuals and we may be around 8 or 9 hundred million for an off term election. That in the midst of a recession! There is something seriously flawed with that picture! --Patch

When govt becomes too powerful, big money on both sides feel they have to up the ante to stay in the race w/each other. Meanwhile, back on the farm, those millions could put many back to work.

I got an e-mail indicating that the Unions have increased their financial backing of the D's. Industry is sitting on considerably more that was designated to their salvation including the coming election.

Health care was a big damper as most corporations who took a massive hit from one of the provisions of the bill. Until their future is safe, there will be no hiring, thus we will only maintain the status quo. We have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world indicating why the free trade bill was so devastating.

The new jobs package is likely to go to paving construction in various states. That means the South will get the money as paving is winding up in the North.

I suppose Industry will be investigated next.

Back to the mosque, more questions arise daily. How did a waiter raise millions to buy the property for the new mosque? If I suddenly acquired two million dollars that could not be tracked I would be considered a drug lord or terrorist and treated accordingly. According to my bank, cash deposits of 1K or more are reported to the govt. It used to be 10K! If all is above board, there would be money trails and there are not.

I will tell the "Wicked Witch of the West" up front that her suggestion to investigate the mosque opposition encouraged me to track down one of the groups protesting and send them a small donation. There seems to be at least three groups opposing the mosque. My name is now proudly on their list of donors!!

The recent SCOTUS decision allowing corporations to purchase political ads ups the ante and candidates have to raise enough funds to defend themselves and/or spread what message they have. It has nothing to do with government power but with economic realities. The only way to have your views or your sales pitch in front of your constituency is via television which is expensive. I'm not saying there isn't waste, I'm certain there is, but candidates don't have a prayer without raising big bucks. I knew a state senator once who had to spend in excess of $2 million just to run for the state senate, and that was about 20 years ago.

The unions are supporting the D's and industry is supporting the R's. Private interest groups are split between both. The wild card in this election is the nationwide Tea Party movement. We have proved that we can raise millions for a candidate when the need arises. We have done so and will provide feet on the ground, man phone banks and knock on doors.

Possibly this is not a good use of money but it keeps the liberal media alive.

Had the last election not been as "contaminated" as it was, possibly the SC might not have ruled as they did. They had the opportunity to observe what McCain Finegold brought to us.

Remember! The law that only infringed on our first amendment rights "just a little"!
