13th Annual Pipes in the Valley Festival

http://pipesinthevalley.com/

The 13th Annual “Pipes in the Valley” Celtic Music Festival transports you to another world on Saturday, September 27th, 11am-10:30pm at Mortensen’s Riverfront Plaza4 located at 300 Columbus Blvd in downtown Hartford.

Bands performing this year include the return of our colorfully creative and awesomely entertaining headliner, “Celtica,” the ever-popular thundering drums of “Albannach” and our latest new discovery, “The Langer’s Ball.”
“The Blaney Brothers” are a local duo new to PIV this year, as well as Ms. Haley Hewitt, the USA National Harp Champion! Also presenting for the first time, “Kilted Colin” will be on hand to tickle your fancy with a fun filled act of amazing feats you’ll not want to try at home!

The 5th annual Highlander Classic is a fusion of strongman as well as classic highland games. This event was created back in the 80′s by Dr. Douglas Edmunds of Scotland. It allowed both the Strongmen competitors and Highland Games Athletes to showcase their strengths together in one event.

Admission is free! Come join the fun for anyone of any age! The massed bag pipe bands will cross the bridge at noon, as is our tradition. The “Games” begin at 9am on the lower level by the river and you’re free to get there early for that. Celtic vendors, all manner of food and finely crafted microbrews from Olde Burnside Brewing are available, as well as a whisky tasting, puppet show, birds of prey, children’s activities and so much more!

Great 1 day event. I've gone the last several years. And best of all it's free admission! Beautiful site right on the river.

14th Annual “Pipes in the Valley” Celtic Music Festival

The 14th Annual “Pipes in the Valley” Celtic Music Festival transports you to another world on Saturday, September 26th, 11am-10:30pm at Mortensen’s Riverfront Plaza located at 300 Columbus Blvd in downtown Hartford.
Look for a lot of changes this year to our programming format and logistics: most children’s activities will be found on the “Upper Plaza,” while the remaining activities, including all food and merchandise vendors, will be relocated to the Lower Plaza and Riverwalk area.

Bands performing this year include the ever-popular Scottish pipe & drum group, Albannach; Barleyjuice, one of our favorite Celtic traditional/pop/rock bands out of Philadelphia returns; the Celtic kick-ass Northhampton band, Dicey Riley, is in the house; making its PIV debut, Three Pints Shy is a fun, frenetic NY band fond of Irish ballads and drinking songs; also new to the PIV stage, Dublin native, John Byrne and company exudes the true Irish spirit of music, mirth and tradition.

The Traditional Highland Games are back! Spectators will enjoy a full field of games drawing top athletes from Masters, Amateurs and Womens classes competing in the Braemar Stone, Open stone, Heavy Weight for Distance, Caber throw, Weight over Bar and Sheaf over Bar. If you would like to compete, please contact Ken Gustason at [email protected]

Kids and parents alike will once again enjoy actually participating as “actors” in Middle-earth’s charming and creative story-telling experience and puppet theatre.

CT Irish Road Bowling is open to everyone 18 years and older. Teams are better with 3 to 4, but two will also work. Online registration charges for 4 players, $40 per team. Mail registration could be done with 2 players. Teams can also sign up theday of the event.

“Pipes in the Valley” is brought to you by the Olde Burnside Brewing Co., of East Hartford, in partnership with Riverfront Recapture. Admission is free and fun for anyone of any age! The massed bag pipe bands will cross the bridge at noon, as is our tradition. The “Games” begin at 9am on the lower level by the river and you’re free to get there early for that. The kids craft tent will run from noon-4pm, and new this year – a 9-hole mini golf with castle! These are just some of the day’s highlights you won’t want to miss!
