Since our present administration apparently has no intention of apologizing for our unconscionable treatment of Prime Minister Brown and his wife during their recent visit to the U.S.A. I guess we private citizens will have to take the task on ourselves. The President's, First Lady's, and the administration's insulting behavior, both in deed and omission, is without comparison in recent history, even in comparison to our actions with nations we have been at odds (or even at war).
While I had nothing to do with the current government's ascendancy (I voted for the War Hero) I wish to express my regrets to our UK friends here on CR.net and throughout the United Kingdom for the actions of our current government.

Maybe Obama is not so accomplished.
You are right, we must not forget who our friends are. In my opinion, if we do we will ALL be fighting for our country! I am here to tell you that having people shoot at you isn't at all fun.
Watch and see who gets VIP treatment and who does not from now on!
I too apologize for our leader's actions and I too didn't vote for him.

The British papers are all over this. Of course the State Department didn't help things with this statement : "There's nothing special about Britain. You're just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn't expect special treatment."
Ouch. Yeah, that's a pretty big oversight, considering the big deal made about his visit to Canada last month. Definitely made worse by that statement. Damn. There's a bit of a different relationship between the US and Britain as opposed to that of Mongolia. This isn't middle management where you get to take a stress day.
Well Bush snubbed Canada and sucked up to Britain. Now Obama snubs Britain hellofaway to treat the two closes allies the U.S. has. Obamas visit up here was nothing but a coffee break and a free ride in Air Force One. As much as I like the American people I have to say there politics are weird.
If I recall, didn't Obama make a comment during the campaign about John McCain not being able to multi-task - insinuating his age? And didn't that comment involve McCain's suspension of his campaign to get back to Washington to focus on the economic crisis? Hmm. So why then would he be too tired and worn out...well, with all the issues coming across his desk and the economic crisis and all....
I too apologize for the Obama-rama. Glad I didn't vote for him...I don't feel so responsible. I'm guessing he missed all the history surrounding how far our countries have come from where we started.

It is appalling how Obama treated Brown. Does he not have any advisors, or in his arrogance did he brush off any advice on how to properly treat allied leaders during their visit? Although I am not surprised that Obama is turning out the be the narcissistic jerk I thought he was, I am surprised by his apparent ignorance. DVD's? Why didn't he just give them a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart so they could pick out their own movies?
I sent a letter to Brown via the British Embassy. I suspect many people will. My main focus was in expressing how utterly classless our president's treatment of the UK in light of their young men's sacrifice with us in the Middle East. If you would like to write, the address is:

The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error. ~John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859

Thanks Stiormeil. Now if only some sort of official would take on the issue and maybe, I don't know, apologise?
All kidding aside, that would be a little hard at this point. Bush might repent and admit he was out of line -- a long shot, but hey -- except he's not official any more. And Obama's administration can't very well apologize for him without sending a bad partisan signal that would be a late second best even if it were appropriate to do so.
If you could have an apology from whomever you want in the matter, whom should we delegate?
