I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight...

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, it's a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack, you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant communit y organizer, become the first black President of
the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters,
spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing
a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee,
spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the
mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only
650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters,
all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and
married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth
control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex
education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter
ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate l awyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DUI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is
extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

There is a big difference between conservative and Republican now. Newt Gingrich changed that when he came up with the contract with America, a plan to "out Democrat the Democrats. George Will, a conservative columnist. feels there are only ten true conservatives in the house of representatives and has addressed the issue several times. We are in the situation Canada was in when their original conservative party became liberal. Conservatives are forming a third party there. We are not doing so successfuly yet.

I do not know how well "I know my stuff." I have watched and lived politics from the inside for nearly 40 years. I had some formal education in business, Govt and a smattering of psychology. The finance came from the business education and a lot of OJT! It scares the cr-p out of me knowing govt plans guide us out of our problems. If you want to really screw something up, let govt take it over and run it!!

In years past, the basic difference between the R's and the D's was the D's went for social programs and the R's didn't. Either could handle the economy. After the "29" crash FDR guided the country out of the depression. We have no one of that stature available today and NO, I do not believe either Obama or McCain could do it.

I personally think that the change has to come from the typical American. The one's and I'll confess that I'm one of them, that used credit for EVERYTHING. A world where cash is just secondary. That's what's wrong. We live in a nation where we want things NOW! Then we expect the Government to fix the problem when too many people have to declare bankruptcy due to their own greed. I'm in no way saying that the Government is not to blame. But in stead of "being patriotic and paying more taxes", why can't Americans be patriotic and get out and stay out of debt and become more money conscious. It doesn't take much education.

Makes total sense to me Nova, you know I managed to get where I am today, by working hard, saving, conserving, spending wisely, and doing without some things until I could afford to buy them, with little or no borrowing in order to do so. Why…you could almost call me a conservative.

JC. Did you know that in 1929 only 2% of the US population that owned a house had a mortage? By 1962, only 2% that owned a house didn't have a mortage. Maby the typical American has to change his thinking. It's easier said then done. But what's funny, I've been reading a book on this issue by Dave Ramsey who went into financial ruin but got himself out. This book was written in 2002. What is said in the book is in a nutshell what is all over the news about the current financial crisis. The nation needs plastic surgery. Get rid of the credit dards. Stop giving loans andcredit to just anyone. A good example is look at what has happened to a lot of good folks who have won the lottery.

I agree Gwenlee. There is far too much emphasis placed on these two candidates. I am voting independent. A message needs to be sent to these two parties to shape up or we won't vote you in.

Jillian, funny is my job, and I’m ok with it. Like Rumsfeld I work standing up, (which along with being a high school wrestler, are the only two things we have in common), I’m focused, and I had a drink already, and it’s good to know that you’re hare for me, just as I am for you.
