Hickory, locust, hornbeam if you're looking for strength and longevity. Fruit woods if you want carve them.

I remember one day when me and some friends of mine were walking around in a park, this was during my learning stage of wicca, we were talking about how one would get a staff. It just so happened that we were walking under an Oak tree and the Oak tree heard us talking about staves and there uses, when a small branch fell and hit me on top of my head. So my friends told me that should make it into a staff, ofcourse i said that i was going to... But, I was going to leave it the way that it was givin to me. so that I know when it came to the time for me to use it, it would have the same amount of energy...

wiz!!!!!! i'm so happy to hear your back, missed you!!!!you will always be you as far as i'm concerned!!!!

ross is correct best to peel the wood while it is "wet/green", what i do is use a very fine grain sandpaper to get rid of any bark, then seal it, i usually harden the tip in a fire then polish it....
i've got a beautiful oak and an ash one as well...where i am in new brunswick i've equiped both of them with removable bear bells, no joke!!! it's so nice to see you again heart.gif kisss.gif

non nobis domine, non nobis sed nomini tua da gloriam.

You don't need bear bells, just tell bad jokes and limericks and bear will leave the area. He has a VERY refined sense of humor and can't stand it!
