That song by Mercy Me, called 'I Can Only Imagine' - my goodness, it stirs my heart every time I hear it.

I'm a Christian girl with a real fondness for rock and roll, so naturally I'm a dcTalk fan who still just loves "Jesus Freak", "In the Light", and "Supernatural"!

And I've been a Skillet fan since 2001. "Hey You I Love Your Soul" is a favorite there.

Now I'm not always in the mood for rock, and to calm me down I love Bebo Norman's "Cover Me" and "I Am".

The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king..."

Catholic haven't really been into CCM music but that changed with Vatican 2. Remember the St. Louis Jesuits album? Most of the well known hymns in the US are of Protestant origin since they have always included more singing in their service. But we Catholics are catching up.

And aside from Ceili Rain here is my favorite Fransiscan Father Stan Fortuna. This guy is just awesome!

The song that bolsters my spirit, and hope for the future...is John Lennon’s “Imagine”.

But Catholic RAP MUSIC?? Whoa! cool.gif

As a little Protestant girl I remember loving the hymn "Lily of the Valley" and "Amazing Grace" too. "Come Thou Almighty King" is cool too!

Favorite Sacred Christmas music is probably Handel's Messiah.

As for hymns - Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Thou Who Wast Rich Beyond All Splendor

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.""

"Be what you would seem to be--or, if you'd like it put more simply--Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise." from "Alice in Wonderland"

ogdenmusic mentioned this Hymn when he started this thread. It had been so long since I heard it that when it came to mind the other day I realized that it was one of my favorite Hymns of my youth (and still to this day).

Here are the words:

Blessed Assurance

Words: Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915
Music: Phoebe P. Knapp, 1839-1908

1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

2. Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
(Refrain)

3. Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
(Refrain)

Thanks MacEoghainn for posting the words to Blessed Assurance. As noted, one of my very favorites.

Another favorite for Christmas 2008.
" HOW GREAT OUR JOY"

While by the sheep we watched at night,
Glad tidings brought an angel bright.

Refrain

How great our joy! Great our joy!
Joy, joy, joy! Joy, joy, joy!
Praise we the Lord in heaven on high!
Praise we the Lord in heaven on high!

There shall be born, so He did say,
In Bethlehem a Child today.

Refrain

There shall the Child lie in a stall,
This Child who shall redeem us all.

Refrain

This gift of God we’ll cherish well,
That ever joy our hearts shall fill.

Refrain

Several of you have mentioned some of my most cherished hymns, but I also would include:
"Of the Father's Love Begotten" Aurelius Clemens
"Lamb of God Pure And Sinless" Nikolous Decius
"For All The Saints (who from their labors rest)" William Hoy

and then "LORD, You I Love With All My Heart" by Martin Schalling

"LORD, You I Love With All My Heart
O let me not from You depart
with tender mercy cheer me.
Earth has no joy for which I care
Heaven itself were void and bare
If I can't have You near me.

And should my guilt my heart subdue,
Let nothing shake my trust in You.
You are my portion I desire;
Your sacrifice my soul inspire.

LORD Jesus Christ,
My God and LORD, My God and LORD
Forsake me not, I trust Your Word!"

There is only one thing I enjoy singing more than Scottish folk songs and that is the Hymns of the Faith.

--------------------
]AN EXCERPT FROM A POEM THAT I WROTE ON 10/11/07

WE CAN'T CHANGE WHAT WE HAVE DONE....
BUT ONLY TAKE A LESSON FROM EACH EXPERIENCE
AND MAKE THE MOST OF EACH MINUTE THAT WE HAVE LEFT
AND TELL OURELVES THAT IT IS OK TO LIVE, LAUGH AND CRY.....
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE ALL WORK TOGETHER
TO GIVE US WHAT WE CAN AND SHOULD EXPERIENCE
AND WE NEED TO CHERISH ALL OF THE TIME
THAT WE SPEND WITH OURSELVES AND OTHERS MAKING THE MOST OF THE SPECIAL MEMORIES THAT ARE OURS..
AND THE ONES THAT WE HAVE YET TO CREATE WITH THE PEOPLE THAT WE HAVEN'T MET!!!!![/SIZE]
