QUOTE (ctbard @ 13-Apr-2008, 02:54 AM)
One of my airedales has really bad allergies, his skin gets all itchy and he gnaws on his hind legs and belly, no, there are no fleas.
He got considerably worse when he had his vaccinations, I have changed his feed and he does seem somewhat better.
I had to put my two rotties to sleep"Not because of allergies!" and it was the hardest thing I ever did.My Remy had inflammatory bowel disease, and it came to the point where no medition would help anymore, he was so sick, we had the vet come to our home and put him to sleep where he was mosy comfortable, laying on his fuzzy bed beside us.
My older rottie Nora, she was 14, had a stroke in our kitchen and had to be put to sleep also, as she couldnt get up, she lives a very long life for a rottie, where as Remy was only 9.

My brother is a Vet. and when my Brittany had allergies and pretty much chewed the hair off his back half he had me give him generic Claritin. It worked. Be sure to clear it with your Vet. though.

Tried Tavist, benydrl,Clariton, nothing worked, I did change his food and he seems to be getting better, Airedales are notorious for having skin issues.

ctbard, forgive my delayed reply. I cannot express deeply enough how my heart breaks and goes out to your beloved furry friend, you and your family.

Many hugs!

If that is his allergy you solved the problem. I sometimes use a dandruff psoriasis and exzema shampoo with 0.5 coal tar, then leave it on for a couple of minutes. Then I shampoo him with regular pet shampoo right away. He hates water (even rain) so a bath cleans both of us.

My heart goes out to you ctbard, I know what it is to see our dearest companion suffer and us having to make a decision.

My sweet little Gabreil died this afternoon, I bought him to the vet for his second antibiotic shot, and he had a seizure, then a heart attack and then died.

I am sorry too, ctbard. You were worrying about how Gabriel was feeling lately, and I was hoping that it would turn out to be a passing ailment. You made the last part of his life full and rich, with a good safe home and companionship. I am sure no bird ever enjoyed better care in his last few years. I dont know where they go after they leave the world, or if they do; but I know Gabriel is still here and happy, as long as you live and remember him.

Thank you all for your thoughts.A friend of mine gave me this little poem about my Gabriel yesterday.

Blue Sky

Blue is the sky up to which I did fly, Into a realm that I have known once before, smiling faces come to my side to comfort my arrival and know that I am home. So when the sky is bright and blue, I will be watching over all of you.

What a wonderful poem dedicated to your dear friend.
Dear ctbard, I hope that one day maybe you'll find another like Gabriel and I'm sure that you'll love him the same.
