So, Erin and I just came home last night after spending a week in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC looking for a place to live and possible job prospects. The good news is, we found a place to live. We will be proud apartment dwellers in the town of Cary, NC. This area of NC is beautiful. There are trees everywhere and although it's well built up, it doesn't really come across as so.
While we were there, we met a couple CR locals. Who did we meet?
Well, we met susieq76 and TheCarolinaScotsman. What a great time we had. We met at an Irish pub in Durham called James Joyce. It was a great atmosphere. We ate and drank for some time. We can certainly say we made some new friends that night. We look forward to meeting with them again. We had originally planned to meet up with dfilpus, too, but unfortunately, he couldn't make it. We'll catch up with you once we move up, Dave.
btw, in the pic, I'm the one in the kilt.
And before anyone complains that Erin isn't in the picture, here is why: Camera not working right. First picture Susieq had her eyes closed. Second picture Erin wasn't in, but everyone had their eyes open.
What a nice picture of you three! Sounds like you folks had a wonderful time at the James Joyce in Durham. Years ago my husband worked road construction in Durham. I've been to NC so many times and I must say that is my favorite state to visit. I know you must be excited to make that move to NC so you can be closer to your daughter.
What a great pic! Looks like you guys are having a blast! NC isn't too far away! Maybe someday I'll get to make it down there to say hi! Would relly enjoy meeting you guys!

Exactly how close are you? We were discussing that at the pub. I know you've mentioned a celtic festival near you, and I'm sure we'd be able to make it up to that, if it's not too far away. We'd love to meet you!
I am ashamed to say that I didn't know where Durham, NC was! I had to do a Google search! Anyway, I found a site that lets you calculate the distance from one city to another (http://www.indo.com/distance/). According to them, it is 138 miles from Durham, NC to Wytheville, VA (where I live) and 121 miles to Radford, VA (where the festival is). So roughly a 2 hour ride. This is as the crow flies though, so it could be longer depending on roads.

We drive through Wytheville VA on our way north to Michigan. It's about two and a half hours drive. The fastest route to Radford VA is by way of Wytheville, because you can take I 77 through the mountains. The shorter route through the mountains is much slower.
The Grandfather Highland Games in Linville NC are only about one hundred miles south of you. Have you gone?

No I haven't, but I have always wanted to! I have a very poor sense of direction and get turned around and lost very easily. I would have to go by myself since my wife has no interest in things Celtic, so I'm sort of afraid to go!
Got to say I had a heck of a good time. You and Erin are really nice folks. And of course Susieq's a great gal. I'm just sorry that Dave couldn't make it.
North Carolina will be getting a wonderful addition when ya'll move up in May. Perhaps we should form a Celtic Club dedicated to searching out all the Irish pubs in the area.
BTW, you know you have to take that kilt off every once in a while to wash it.
Man, I hate having my picture taken. It was great, and we will look forward to having Brian and Erin here, as well as meeting Wizard, dilfpus and maybe even MaggieMahone, Monarch's Own and any other North Carolinians and surrounding folks!

I'm so glad that you all were able to get together! It would be so nice to met up with the wonderful people here, to match a face with the cunning wisdom!
frankly, I'm a bit jealous! but, so glad that you all had a good time!
Hey, WizardofOwls, you said you live in Wytheville, VA? This is a long shot, but is that in Wythe County? I'll have to Google that in a moment, but, why I'm asking is that a thread of my family goes back to Wytheville, VA and further back to Philadelphia, PA circa Revolutionary War.
Apparently, one of my ancestors helped fund and build a church in Wythe County somewhere, not for certain where.
It's funny how you think of stuff like that!
