Hello all.
I am considering getting involved with mission trips. I feel like I've been pulled that way for a couple years now and have come up with a bunch of reasons not to and to put it off. I might try a small one this next year and see how it goes. Any thoughts or experiences you want to share?

First, I would suggest to pray about being led and prepared for going on a mission trip. Secondly, G O!! The blessings, experience, the connections you make are irreplaceable.

I have been on many mission trips and always come back changed, encouraged, renewed, blest. My favorite trip was to Haiti. There is so much work to do there. The people are so hungry both spiritually and physically. It was truly an eye opening experience.

Again, I would encourage to think about going on a mission trip.

Thanks for your response. I had a friend who's mom and dad were missionaries in Haiti and she talked about it alot.
Thank you for your encouragement too. I went through a class yesterday on missions at my church. I definitely think that this is in my future. I have signed up my step daughter and me to go on a mission trip in July to Mexico. This one is to build a family a block house and to get my feet wet. My step daughter and wife went on a trip simular to this a couple of years ago and both of them came back changed, but sick for 3 weeks.
What I really want to get involved in is helping a community get a water and or electricity supply. I want to turn what I've learned professionally into something good for people who were not lucky enough to be born here. I am very blessed and feel this is one way that I can make a difference.

Montie, You can definitely put your skills to work in Mexico. Block houses (shelter), electricity and running water are needed. I didn't go, but a group of 40 from our church just went to Rocky Point, Mexico and added an addition to a church. The work was completed in 4 days.

Just be sure to drink bottled water and watch what you eat. You will do fine.

My long-time buddy Vince and his family left their home in California and moved to South America where they are missionaries now, involved in an orphanage and other endeavors there. I know how much it means to them when anyone comes to help out on a mission adventure, so I'd say go for it!

I can give you info on Vince's missionary work, if you want... let me know here.
