The largest horse that has been recorded was a Percheron breed in 1903 and stood 21 hands high. He weighed 3,940 pounds. I would say that was one big horse. Last year at the WV state fair, Southern States had a very beautiful team of Percherons drawing a wagon and of course advertising their stores. The Percheron is my favorite draft horse.
Giddy-up horsey!

Wow. Now that's impressive!
We supported an entry of a horse we used to own to the Guiness Book for 2003..
Lord. German Holsteiner. 19.3 hands.. 21 years old.
Unfortunately, he didn't make it :(
Oldest tallest horse. I don't think Guiness really thought much of it.
He was our baby for 3 years. I did get to ride him a couple of times. English and man, can he jump!

Wow 21 hands? Thats amazing. The largest horse I have ever seen was like 18 hands. ( I think) It was a belgian draft at the barn I go to named Barney. He left though. I dont really remember him it was when I first started riding. I rode mombo today. I got on him and asked for a trot and he wouldn't stop bucking. So some people watching me ride said he looked like he was limping so I got off and checked it out. I got off him untacked and walked him around the ring for like a half hour. It seemed to get a little better.  ::confused  Gotta go bye! ::lol

I once read that the tallest horse was, ummmmmm...... over 22 hands(?)  and 2 and a half tons! i don't know, mabey it's true, maybey its not but i think it's in he records or something.  I wish i could've ridden him even though he died before i was born.  Vic, Mombo probably stepped on one of his feet wrong.  I don't know the reason for bucking, maybey because he wasn't out alot for the past 3 days cause of the rain or maybey me wanted you off because he was in pain?  I don't ezactly understand the logic of that though because he loves you soooooo much.  oh well! mesah wants a 17.1 hand horse! I have a thing about tall horses!!! :p  :D

There is always a reason why the horses do certain things.. even if it's to just "see what I can get away with". Though, it doesn't sound as if Mombo was trying that. He isn't lame is he?  he, right?

Tinker, I think you'd enjoy tall horses. I'm only 5'6", and I feel so very akward riding a 15 or even a 16 hand horse. (though, anything taller looks unporportional, especially in the show ring!;) They feel more powerful under you, and depending on the breed and what their 'specialty' is, more graceful.. longer legs, the myth of moving faster.. and of course.. the view is better!! especially when you're in the back on trail (and one of the short ones lets one go!;)  ::lol

Has anyone here ever rode an Australian Stock horse?
They are awesome little beasts!!! On a guided trail ride in the Blue Mountains, our guide let me and another girl let loose on our Stocks.. man that was fun!
Imagine riding at a run on top of lush thick green hills (similar to the tall hills of Ireland) with the Blue Mountains in the horizon, with the sheep just scattering to make a path for you as the misty rain dampens your face.
wow.
I still can't believe I did that!

I love talllll horses.  I adore them. I feel wierd riding anything under 16 hands.  wonder why?*rhetorical question*
I'm 5'6", road to be 5'7" or 5'8". also bigger horses, bigger jumps. that's my thinking

Kinda, but i'm getting used to him.  all his other qualities make up for his shortness. aka: natural jumping talent, reining, leng yeilding, etc.
