Thunder rumbles Lightening cracks Rain in torrents Smash the deck The wind in rage Screams in the rigging And shrouds all strain To hold the mast The sails are reefed The hatches battened Two miles to Lee The shore line looms A brooding Siren Beckoning doom The cockpit fills Then drains and fills The scuppers flowing Like racing mills The Hull does groan The rudder quakes As the maddened Squall Roars cross the wake The helm to starb'rd To force her up And point her bow Into the storm Seas come crashing Wind it howls Rolling, pitching Wrenching yaw Climb a wave Fall off the top The helpless pause Down in the trough The wondering if This ever ends. And then the Sun Breaks through the clouds As fast it came The quicker gone

Yes, a good story teller and a wonderful capturer of the sensory impressions. I learned I didn't get seasick easily as a teenager, when I got caught out in a quick, nasty squall in a little Beetle on Narragansett Bay. It was just like this. (No, I was not doing the sailing! It was my first time out, and I was a lump of cargo in an orange flotation vest.)
Well,I'm soak through the bones after reading this story really, this is quite a squall allright...I was on that boat and if you'll excuse me have to go and change...
Camac you're my best story teller of all time,keep writing.

Thanks guys. Without boasting I've been caught in a number of squalls on Lake Ontario. The worst one completely caught me off guard and I could get the mainsail reefed fast enough and had a knock down with the keel out of the water and the mast in it. I figured oh sh'' this is it I'm gone. Well the old girl righted herself real quick and as she settled down I stood in the cockpit finger in the air yelled "Yah missed yah SOB, Yah Missed". Then I threw up. Oh to be young again.

You must've been quite a "headstrong" fellow in your days yelling something like that and not have been thrown off board for real....

Not really. Just crazy nuts like all shark sailors are.
Great story, and the anecdote had us all laughing here - thank you.
Reminded of a comment an author once made about idiots "standing on top of hills in thunderstorms wearing wet copper armour yelling "All Gods are B**tards!" " - hehehehe.

Teriodin;
I know it is foolish "To Tempt the Gods" but what the hey it adds a little spice to life and without spice life is rather bland n'es pas. " Whom the Gods would destroy they first make insane" I guess that puts me on the list. My dad had a saying "Nils Carborundum iligitimate" (don't let the bastards grind you down" good advice. He was nuttier than me.
