Well... as a matter of fact, the sixth release is in its final production and engineering. The title, which no one really knows yet (except possibly for Swanny) is hush, hush.
Unlike the other offerings, this one has very diverse entries into the mix. Eric, the bass player, has written a song that's nothing like we've ever done before. Greg, the drummer, has written a tune that's about as new to us as sobriety. Swanny and Kyf have done their typical wizardry. They allowed me to spoil a track.
You'll have to stay tuned for the release dates... but it's guaranteed to be out eventually. That's about as close as I can get without suffering the ill beatings of band management.

Sean tossed me this CD years ago when I was making a kilt for his son. I've enjoyed it for a long time and continue to hunt the band out whenever I'm in town.
Quality music from quality guys!
Their version of "Broad Black Brimmer" is one of my all-time favorites!

Racing Fan... due to the whole "medieval" feel... but contemporary with lyrics... jump on over to the website for Coyote Run. Their instrumentals, vocals and overall quality are wonderful. They have numerous pieces that are done for the whole Renny crowd, and they are also Celt performers. Give their goodies a listen and let them know that their kiltmaker says "yo".

Unfortunately, they have decided not to play.
We recently shared the stage with them in New York and Pennsylvania, but were not able to play with them in Williamsburg, VA a couple weeks ago due to their stoppage.
The music goes on, but the personalities will be sorely missed on the road. I'm sure that I share those sentiments with a number of other musicians and bands. |

As for the majority of the notes, the answer is YES... "My Bonnie Lassie" is about my wife. Those who know her will understand the reference at the end that is "My Curly Lassie and Me".
I really do try to answer all the inquiries as soon as possible. It's a matter of hit-and-miss when I'm trying to find WiFi on the road!

A few of the bands that we share the stage with, and are MORE than worth supporting with a "listen" are:
Celtic Rock(ish) ones...
Scythian (wonderful guys with twin fiddle capacity)
Enter The Haggis (a little more electic than us... but still with trad licks)
Albannach (drum bangin', whisky drinkin', pleat flyin' fun)
Greenwich Meantime (a nice mix of multiple band influences)
Gaelic Storm (probably one of my all-time favorites)
The Elders (The Pride of Kansas City... barbecue optional)
IF you get in that Rennaissance / Celtic mode...
Coyote Run (good friends with a unique mix)
If you want humour and talent...
Seamus Kennedy (NOTHING can be said about this Irish jewel that's good enough)

I'm glad to see that the bands that we share the stages with are appreciated so wonderfully on this site!
I'm also ecstatic to see that the support for the Celtic Music is so strong.
NOW...
Take that enthusiasm and get your friends and family to get out to the gigs! There's NOTHING better than seeing educated and excited folks in the crowds!

Any time someone in the genre decides to stop, it's disheartening to all of us. It's especially tough when it's great musicians.

For those in the New England area, they'll be appearing at the "Pipes In The Valley" event in Hartford, CT at the end of September.
I've seen Warren and the boys a few times and have ALWAYS been completely entertained by the music... the jokes... the dancing... the overall performance. It's VERY original and unmatched in a live performance.

I'm not falling for any of it... but I DO applaud Hollywood for remaking "The Omen" and holding it for release today. That's pretty cool! 
The only people that believe that stuff are the same ignats that fret over everything... like stepping on cracks, walking under ladders, breaking mirrors, or only drinking Guinness after 4:00pm. That last one just plain scares me! |

Barleyjuice DOES, in fact, have numerous songs and tunes that we play for Festivals and private events that are more traditional in base. The early days of the band were primarily our own spins on traditionals. That really remains to this day. There are only a handful of tunes that could be termed "out there"... and that's for those who want more than the standards. Only when requested will we dive into the others... but that's virtually every gig!!!
Barleyjuice has played in more places than I can imagine... from auditoriums, to blocked-off city streets, festivals, yacht clubs and private events. We do have the ability and experience to view the situation and play what's appropriate. Not to worry all!
As for Chicago:
1). Make sure to check Shay Clarke's review of "6 Yanks". You may have to Google the exact location since I don't keep those things around.
2). We're looking at September 8-10 to be in town. We'll see if we can't get the logistics settled on this one. It would be the St.Catherine's/Fox Valley Irish Festival... plus some local establishment appearances for the fun of it. At this point, it's not completely confirmed.
September has us beginning in Chicago, then Baltimore, then Northampton MA, then Western PA, then Hartford CT. |

Dundee and SisterKnight, I can't tell you the last time we played at a Pub... other than to get up and play an acoustic round for the patrons to join-in and sing along for a few minutes.
Honestly, if you have places that would be of interest, they can contact us at the website (www.barleyjuice.com) to inquire. It's nice to be able to hang back and accept or decline offers now. The nights of playing in pubs from 10 to 2 in Philadelphia are gone (thank the Lord).
Trust me... we like to travel. We're playing in New England more this year than we are in our own hometown!
I can attribute much of the success of the band to the friends and loyal listeners here at CelticRadio.net. MacFive has been nothing short of wonderful with the backing... and we know it. That's why I wear the HighlandRadio shirts as often as possible. Hell, I was a member here before I was with Barleyjuice! I was still making kilts at my store, and playing CelticRadio in the shop!
