Celtic Radio Community > General Discussion > Forum Game For 2004

Posted by: Macfive 23-Sep-2003, 04:49 AM
I wanted to run a few thoughts I had on an expansion for the forum. Understand that any of these thoughts will probably not happen until 2004.

Basically, the idea is to add on a game module. There would be a map of the 7 Celtic Nations (plus England). Members could join one of the nations and this would be reflected in their profile as their home nation. Realtime stats on each nation would be available. Lots of historical stuff and background info. Picture graphically pleasing celtic'ish map showing the celtic nations. As you move your mouse, the nation underneath would highlight. If you clicked on the nation you would be brought to that particular nations home page with member stats, chat and discussions.

Once a member nation has enough members, there could be an election held to name the ruler of that country. Other positions could be appointed by the ruler or elected by the general population.

This might be a turned base game, with some real-time aspects generated by the computer. It will meld with the current form, but be separate enough so that if a member chooses not to participate, then it is simple as not opting in for the game.

The real fun would be the interaction between the different countries, custom graphics to your profile, access to private areas of the members country and anything else that comes to mind! The goal would be to generate interaction between members and be a cooperative type game.

Any thoughts?

What about also having it broken down into clan levels as well when possible? If you like this idea then please advise when setting this type up as you may not add my clan being it is a small clan.

Here is a link to the previous topic about this subject. - RPG Levels. It is explained all there. I think we might use this as part of the "envisioned" online game. By that I mean your rating, based on a number of factors like posts, date joined, how often posts.

Here's the topic:

Ok now it makes more sense. One question on the MP levels why is mine like half way up when I am practically the oldest member here. wink.gif

Posted by: Macfive 23-Sep-2003, 06:13 PM
Your MP is your mania points. You would not want to have full mania because that means you are not posting any messages. You gain mania by the number of days you have been here, but then mania is deducted with the posts you make. Make sense?

You EX is low because you have just entered level 32, as you keep posting you get more experienced in that level.

If anyone is interested in the mathematical formulas I can post them here.

Posted by: scottish2 23-Sep-2003, 06:23 PM
So I take it 0 would be the ideal number but being I have been here forever it's higher then 0. Why then did it go up when I hit level 32? Should it not have gone down with more posts? I was even with the HP level.

XP's I figured out. Wanted to make level 32 today as you noticed I have been posting a lot more today. wink.gif

Posted by: scottish2 23-Sep-2003, 06:24 PM
In fact it went up again. Before that post it was at 680 then when I posted it it jumped to 689 and am sure this post will jump it higher. unsure.gif

My Mania points are 722 currently. Let's see what they are after this post. According to our calcs it cost 1.5 mp.

Posted by: Macfive 23-Sep-2003, 07:22 PM
Mania points are now 721, so it does appear to be calculating properly.

Dave, not sure if because you are the only level 32 is there is some logic error. Give it a shot and see if your mania points come down. Here is the code if anyone is interested or if you think there is an error somewhere in it, let me know:

CODE

/* Determine MP
*
* MP is calculated by how long the user has been around
* and how often they post.
*
* Max MP is based on level, and increases with level
* Each post a user makes costs them mp,
* and a user regenerates mp proportional to how
* many days they have been registered
*
*/

//Number of days the user has been at the forums.
$user_days = max(1, round( ( time() - $poster['joined'] ) / 86400 ));

/* The mp cost for one post.
* Raising this value will generally decrease the current
* mp for most posters.
* This may be set to a decimal value (eg, 2, 2.1, 3.141596)
* This should NOT be set to 0
*/
$post_mp_cost = 1.5;

/* This determines how much mp a user regenerates per day
* Raising this value will generally increase the current
* mp for most posters.
* This may be set to a decimal value (eg, 3, 3.5, 2.71828)
* This should NOT be set to 0
*/
$mp_regen_per_day = 2;

if($level < 1)
{
$mp = '0 / 0';
$mp_percent = 0;
}
else
{
$max_mp = floor( (pow( $level, (1/4) ) ) * (pow( 10, pow( $level+2, (1/3) ) ) ) / (pi()) );

$mp_cost = $poster['posts'] * $post_mp_cost;
$mp_regen = max(1, $user_days * $mp_regen_per_day);

$cur_mp = floor($max_mp - $mp_cost + $mp_regen);
$cur_mp = max(0, $cur_mp);
$cur_mp = min($max_mp, $cur_mp);

$mp = $cur_mp . ' / ' . $max_mp;
$mp_percent = floor($cur_mp / $max_mp * 100 );

}

Well mine actually went down to 687 after the above post so maybe just me unsure. Oh and if you get this can you check the mail I sent about smilies need to see if you have an answer to it. Hopefully you will. wink.gif

Posted by: scottish2 23-Sep-2003, 08:02 PM
yeah it seems to be dropping. I just noticed it's now as I type at 683 so 4 points lower. Just weird that the bar got longer when I jumped to 32. Leave it to me though to be the trouble maker LOL angel_not.gif

Paul: that explains alot... thanks =)

Paul was reading the RPG levels post again and was wondering in the HP area what did you mean by the last line below? Also how often does the HP level go up as I posted a lot last night and this morning and remained the same HP level then I noted it did jump about 7 this morning is it a daily update on that one?

QUOTE
HP - stands for Hit Points. Hp is based on user activity. A member's current HP is based on the user's posts per day. A higher post average per day, the more HP. A user with an average post per day will have 50% of their max HP. We have set the average post per day at 2. Members who manage to post so far above the average that they have more HP than their max will receive a bonus to their max HP.
