having been at a school which was largely run by Opus Dei (some of yous might know what that is) there isn't much that can shock me about church & the like...

Try your luck with these links;

http://catholic.cephasministry.com/catholic_links.html

... and check out this article;

http://www.cuttingedge.org/articles/rc122.htm

I couldn't believe my eyes whilst reading this! Who are these priests that believe they can COMMAND Christ to humbly bow His Head and descend from Heaven to be sacrificed on their altars... again and again and again and again and again...??!!

This is blasphemy!! Am I the only one that's outraged at this??!!

BTW - has anybody noticed the inverted cross on the back of these chairs that the Pope uses?? Is it just a memorial to Peter the Apostle's death? Or something else?

QUOTE (andylucy @ Feb 8 2004, 10:29 PM)
Now, to the actual "day" of the Sabbath.  Well, Biblically, I like Acts 20:7.  It spells out that the Eucharist is celebrated on the first day of the week.

1. Acts 20:7 has indeed tripped up a lotta folk. However it does not establish a 'Sunday Sabbath' or 'Sunday Communion'; read the following links for details;

http://www.ynca.com/sundayworship.htm

http://www.halleluyah.org/Acts%2020.7%20Di...on%20Sunday.htm

2. The 'Holy Trinity' is a myth rooted in paganism - the Holy Spirit is the power of God;

http://www.ynca.com/Mini%20Studies/truth_a...the_trinity.htm

3. There is no such thing as an immortal soul:

http://www.ynca.com/Mini%20Studies/immortalsoul.htm

4. What exactly is hell?

http://www.ynca.com/Mini%20Studies/underst...ng_hellfire.htm

How many folk actually go out of their way to really check up on what their religious leaders are feeding them with??? (1 Thess 5:21) book.gif

I think that this is a bunch of hooey...

...you think??... I've looked into all the references cited on that link, and they stack up, and I've done enuff study into Biblical prophecy and I've read enuff published material to know that these folk are stating facts. I've seen the Vatican for what it really is for a number of years now.

When are people gonna open their eyes? It staggers me, it really does. Oh, well, rather you than me, sunshine.

Maybe this link is also the same sorta hooey;

http://www.unmaskingcatholicism.com/index.shtml#Home

Besides, nobody has to drive the Vatican back into the Dark Ages, because it's already gone back there, of its own accord.

Accounts of cannibalism during the Crusades were made by Radulph of Caen and Albert of Aix in 'The Crusades Through Arab Eyes' by Amin Maalouf (translated by Jon Rothschild).

Once again, this could be nothing more than heretical/infidel propaganda, but when you consider both the overall barbaric savagery of the Crusaders, and the ritual that takes place in the Vatican's Roman Catholic Mass... then cannibalism would not be too far-fetched, one would think.

My question - how many accounts did not get recorded????

Hey, andy... all those 'righteous' popes that did the Lord's work during the Crusades... where are they now? Are they in heaven getting a pat on the back for a job well done? What about all those slaughtered 'heathens' whether they be Muslim, Jew, Christian? Men, women, and children!!!!!!!!!!Where are they? What does the Vatican say on that score???

Wow... I've been researching on a lotta different topics for my initial discussions with andylucy, regarding the Sabbath, 'Sola Scriptura', the Crusades etc... book.gif, but now... I'm lost for words. What I've been digging up on the Vatican has made feel quite sick.

I just hope those who place their loyalty and lives in the hands of the Vatican and its doctrines read everything on the following link, hosted by 'Former Catholics For Christ'. A 3 part article series on 'Sola Scriptura' is also featured on this link.

http://www.cuttingedge.org/articles/rome.cfm

I hope to God that folk will finally realise what the Vatican is really all about.

Sure, some may just wave it off as propaganda, but please take the time to read it carefully, and then judge for yourselves whether it is indeed propaganda... or undeniable proof.

I somehow believe those other topics could now become irrelevant.

I totally agree with you there. I couldn't have put it much better myself - there's nothing quite like being to the point. thumbs_up.gif

I've nothing but contempt for the professing Christendom religion of this world. It reeks of hypocracy and it has indeed evoked a helluva lot of suffering and war. That's why I go by the Book, the whole Book, and nothing but the Book, and bypass a lot of what's been spouted from the pulpit.

I just wanna ask this - compare the teachings of Christ Himself to the religion of this world and then honestly ask yourself if something hasn't gone horribly wrong!

Amen wink.gif

laugh.gif ... just one more little heretical teaser... laugh.gif

What is the Vatican's official stance on the nature of the Holy Spirit? Is there really a Holy Trinity? Is there a distinct third diety?

That should keep you busy for a while. Bye-bye... laugh.gif

... looks like the Inquisition is on the witchhunt... laugh.gif laugh.gif

Patience, my papist adversary, patience. We poor, pitiful, wretched heretical farming peasants are forced to work for a living you know. I'll address your Most Holy Kilted One's groundless assertions in due time. Watch this space... wink.gif laugh.gif

I do admire your loyalty to your leader holiday.gif, though it would be better utilized under the Right One. wink.gif

Seeing this discussion (war laugh.gif ) has taken on a distinctive Scripture vs tradition nature, let's open up a new thread and really get to the crux of the confusion.
Once we have exposed counterfeit religion for what it really is, we can then move to the other thread (Crusades etc) to discuss some home facts about the Vatican's 'glorious' roots and legacy. Let's really put the papacy's 'infallibility' to the test, and see how well it stands up to scrutiny. wink.gif You may want to check out http://europeanhistory.about.com/library/w....htm?once=true& for a little food for thought. Maybe Mr. Pope should've kept those Vatican archives sealed.

Let's bypass all the claptrap propaganda and get some real answers. Here's hoping other participants will engage in this thread. So what do we go by? Scripture or tradition? 'Sola Scriptura', as some may call it, was not a Protestant invention, but sealed within the Scriptures themselves. The canon of both the OT & NT can be verified as well. Luther's Protestant reformation did very little to enhance living by the literal Word. Didn't he call James an 'epistle of straw'? Hardly advocating 'sola scriptura', ay?

Acts 20:7 - andi claims this spells out that the Eurachrist was celebrated on the first day of the week. Are you sure, dude? Why is this? Is it because they 'broke bread' and/or 'Paul preached unto them'? So have a really, really good look into this, cos I hate to see grown men cry. Forget about what Father Ted has taught you. Just use your Bible and a good concordance/dicitonary. laugh.gif wink.gif

One question - what is the Vatican's official stance on the Apocrypha? Keeping in mind, that the canon to the Old Covenant (Testament) was closed when the spirit of prophecy was taken from Israel after the time of Ezra, and that the Apocrypha was never recognized by Christ, when He spoke of the 3 divisions of Scripture in the OT (Luke 24:44) , and it was never quoted as scripture by His apostles. Also keep in mind that the only writings the NT church lived by and taught from were the OT Scriptures. There was no NT until later.

These challenges are addressed to professing Christendom in general, but to the Vatican in particular, since it is the 'Mother Church' and pioneer and advocator of much of religion's traditions and beliefs.

A couple more teasers;

1. What is the Vatican's official stance on the nature of the 'soul'. Is it immortal?

2. What is the Vatican's official stance on the nature of hell? It does seem remarkably similar to that pictured in Dante's 'Divine Comedy'.

Keep in mind that unstable answers will naturaly reflect an unstable religion. I'll compile a detailed response in due time. Stay tuned. wink.gif

Forever heretical, heretical forever!! laugh.gif

I know it's an old cliche, but personally speaking I'm searching for the meaning of life, the real purpose for our existence. There has to be a purpose. Otherwise, what is the point of it all? If we were just spat out by accident by the 'big bang' to live and die like animals, then why do humans possess that unique facet of an inquisitive mind that is continously seeking understanding, knowledge, answers, and striving for progress, achievements and higher ground? And why do we possess a conscience and the sense of guilt, if it's just all a one-way ticket to oblivion, with no possible consequences at the end of the road? unsure.gif

It just doesn't add up. It's pointless. Especially when one witnesses all the suffering, torment, and pain that people go through (war, famine, poverty, disease etc. etc.)on this planet. Surely, folk were meant for something a bit better than all that hell. Seems especially cold-blooded and cruel when one considers all the newborn infants and children who are taken away when they haven't even started to taste quality of life. Just the fact that folk such as ourselves are digging into our minds to enquire and search for answers on a discussion such as this only serves to add weight to the argument that there has to something or somebody out there some place who has placed us here for a real purpose.

Evolutionists advocate the Big Bang, believing that all that exists is just an accident, a random process. Well, it sure was one HECK of an accident, cos when I look around my surroundings, I see design. Evolutionists proclaim the Big Bang started with a 'primeval atom' (I think Stephen Hawkings has been making this theory popular). Well, where did the atom come from? And the laws of physics, such as light, heat, and gravity, needed for a 'big bang'? Evolution only works when there's something already in existence to evolve from. Didn't Einstein prove that matter did not always exist?

There's so much scientific analysis to verify Creation that I still can't fathom how the theory of evolution is still so popular. It's lunacy. On the following link is a list of quotes by evolutionists themselves who admit that their theories are proving groundless;

http://www.anointed-one.net/quotes.html

If then evolution is indeed false, and there is indeed a Creator, then surely that Creator would have created us for a purpose and created a purpose for us.

So, that's me - I'm hunting for the real purpose for existence, and slowly but surely, I'll find it. I'm searching for that higher ground. thumbs_up.gif

QUOTE (Siusaidh Blues @ Feb 7 2004, 05:22 AM)
I was wondering, why did you quote Kierkegaard at the end of your post? What was he referring to, the claims of Jesus Christ?

It was just a quote that I felt fitted in with the nature of this thread's discussion. His roots were in Lutheran piety, if my memory serves me right, and this quote comes from his 'Attack Upon Christendom', in which he challenges the hypocracy of organized religion in general, specifically the Lutheran establishment. I haven't found any evidence that he lived by God's every literal Word, which the Scripture repeatedly emphasizes on (Deut 8:3, Matt & Luke 4:4 - you know, I kinda get the feeling that God was trying to make a point here wink.gif), however, Kierkegaard did have the insight to realise that something had gone awry in professing Christendom, since the days Christ.

My regular stop for information is http://www.vision.org, hosted by folk who are known simply as the church of God. It may be just coincidence that the NT church were also known by the exact same name (eg Acts 20:28 & 1 Cor 1:2), but when both peoples share a character and creed that appears strikingly similar, it does make you wonder. wink.gif Christ tells us that His church would always prevail (Matt 16:18), so they've got to be somewhere on this planet. Seek and you shall find (Matt 7:7). Hopefully, further queries and research will confirm my hunch.

I still wanna do a thorough investigation on the background of this folk, and see if I can uncover any discrepancies that I should be aware of, especially regarding the leadership, cos it's these dudes who can, and will, lead you up the proverbial crooked garden path, if you don't check things out properly.

A recommended site is http://www.blueletterbible.org which carries a good selection of online concordances, lexicons, commentaries etc. Definitely a worthwhile research asset. thumbs_up.gif

QUOTE (Aaediwen @ Feb 6 2004, 02:51 PM)
Should I bring up the idea that the very day of Christ's birth has been moved (as with several other dates of note) to better line up with pagan holidays?  Some of this is why I'd like to travel back in time and talk with Christ himself, in the flesh, sometimes. (While he used flesh to walk the land). Sometimes I wonder how much of an issue the language barrier would be...

You're right about Xmas... by the way has anybody noticed Jeremiah 10:2-4?

It's only right, as far as I'm concerned, that we should question and challenge the doctrines and dogma advocated by organized religion. Doesn't it seem bizarre that the Scriptures teach one thing, and mainstream religion teaches something else??
Whether they be Papal, Protestant, JW, Mormon, Methodist, or these TV type personal ministries or whatever. We shouldn't just accept things at face value.

My issue is not with the congregations. Folk can choose whatever path they wish - it's none of my business. But I do hope that they are presented with the opportunity to look outside the square of structured religion and to think for themselves without any influence from the pulpit.

My contentions and challenge is presented to the religious hierarchy who dish out the doctrine and dogma that appears to be alarmingly out of context with the teachings of the very diety they claim to represent.

The Scriptures admonish us to prove all things (1 Thess 5:21). This verse is complementary with (Matt 24:4-5,11,23-24) (John 5:39) (Acts 17:10,11) (1 John 4:1). That's good advice in my book. So if some religious leader preaches to me with guff that's in conflict with the Scriptures, well, they are wasting their time.

What amuses me is how organized religion shoots itself in the foot by admitting that what they advocate has no Scriptural authority (as touched on in my opening post). They simply don't have God's authority. Their own words reveal their hypocrisy. angel_not.gif

Another example is found in this article, which looks at Xmas;

http://www.vision.org/trdl/2000/trdl001221b.html

"The Christianity of the New Testament simply does not exist."
Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) Danish philosopher.
