...just my two cents. While drilling for more oil in this country might ease some of the pricing of gas, it is absolutely neccesary at this point to start following paths to a different energy source. This country has repeatedly dragged their feet on this issue simply because oil is big money to a lot of people (including the Bush family). People go where the most money is not what makes the most sense or what helps the most people!

I recently read that now 100% of oil company executives are admitting that oil will peak around 2015-2020, and from then onto eternity the demand will always exceed supply, and oil will be nearly completely gone by 2050. They didn't admit this before becasue they simply didn't want to cause any kind of market fluctuations. But now they have to admit it since it is getting close and the prices are out of control now anyway. So we have to find a new sustainable energy source.

One position might be to tell Iraq that we are pulling out immediatly and letting you go on your own, unless you give us unlimited oil as payment....people may not realize this but oil literally spills out of the ground in those Middle East countries, where there are actual ponds of oil going to waste. The world oil supply existing in the ground does exceed our ability to develop or use it at this point which doesn't help, as we approach 2050.

...A famous American Dungeon is the Provost Dungeon in Charleston, South Carolina, used during the Revolutionary War. It is the cellar, with heavy barrel vaulted ceilings, under the Old Exchange Building. Visiting it would give you a good idea of what an American dungeon looked like! It was described as a damp and unwholesome place that caused many illnesses and deaths among the prisoners. Imagine no electricity or running water! Prisoners of all types (many innocent), men and women, were indiscriminately thrown together in one room to suffer the consequences....

Welcome Tami Mcleod from your old, historical country to our not-so-old country. I would think you are far from boring (or bored) being able to speak those languages and being from Scotland where many of us only hope we can get to someday!! Have fun in our community and welcome

I had never heard of Shauna Burns, but will have to check her out. I've often thought that Susan McKeown had one of the cleanest, clear Irish voices I've ever heard! Very beautiful voice, although it might be low for some, depending on if you like low or high voices. I find high voices pleasant but they seem to "get old" fast. A voice with a wide range usually keeps your interest more. Celtic music as a whole can get tiresome quickly, so it is nice to switch between different voices and styles.

I saw this sport once on public television and was fascinated by it and was dying to participate. I find the traditional sports of baseball, football (American), soccer, and basketball oh so boring!!!

I'll be the oddball..I'd like to travel to and perhaps even live forever in the late 1940's, or very early 1950's. This was one of the most fantastically satisfying periods in history for anyone in the USA. The economy was great. Men and women knew their place in society (sorry...there is a role for each). There was less rich and poor class and more middle class. Everything was cheaper, percentage wise, compared to your average income. People appeared to be more family oriented. The music was even good! Look at movies/videos from this time period and there were even far fewer over-weight people! Cars were cool and solid. This was one heck of a good time to be alive!

My opinion is that sin today and back in the early 1800's would the same. As someone else said, just because more is tolerated today doesn't make it a non-sin. Greed, to me, has always been about the biggest sin possible, today and back then! It hurts more people over all than just about anything out there. Secondly I would say treating the Earth "incorrectly" is a big sin as well, since that also hurts more people than can be imagined, in the long run. Many times the waste and harm to the Earth is because of greed...so they go hand-in-hand, and are just plain wrong to partake in..thus sinful. A sin really would be anything that hurts other people..war, physical harm, greed, being mean, etc.

TandVh..a very nice poem and truly from the heart. I would have liked it to be a little longer. If you ever have a new version of it..post it and let us see. I re-write my poems all the time. Seems like after I read them years later I have a slightly different thought on things, and feel I have to modify the poem! I try not to change too much though, of course.

As well, I have many times tortured myself over why I can't except normalcy. Years later I still do not except it and continue to look for more.

What I find disturbing and which gives me the creeps is thinking of battle back in those times and how gruesome it must have been! Imagine a bunch of limbs, blood, fingers, dead horses, eyeballs and even heads laying around on the battle field afterward! Incredible suffering. Still the image of the knight is one of honor, valour and romance.

I'm sitting here at crappy work (for the federal government)..and just found out there was a 4 hour delay due to ice, and I didn't have to come in until later, but I must have missed it scrolling on the news. I could have slept in! Guess I'll just fool around for 3 more hours.

I thought I was a lot more Irish than I am, but once I began doing genealogy I found I was more English than anything (will I be kicked off of here?)..and more Scottish than I had thought (12.5 percent)! Really hardly any Irish in me...but doesn't mean I don't love anything Irish and the music....and my kids are half Irish. BUT if you want to go back farther I am Norman French (as many of the actual Irish are!)..and back even farther I am Norse (again..as many of the Irish are). I took DNA tests to show all of this. beer_mug.gif

I consider Lorena McKinnit one of the best Celtic artist out there. Her songs take you on an amazing journey in your mind. Dantes Prayer is one of her best, and hard not to get teary-eyed and or chills when listening. Her talent is amazing to me, and her voice one of the best Celtic female voices. I love her mix of cultural influences..Celtic with Middle Eastern styles, etc. Not just your typical Celtic artist!

Hello Munbeam (Angie)! I am also in South Central Pa. (Lewisberry). You sound like you have an interesting life that is for sure. I've always been into organic or natural living but could never find many people that into it, so I never got that into it. The modern life is too easy for most, so no one wants to step back a little. I have even started a web site which is going to detail herbs used for medicine, but it is in development still.

Would love to be a gardner of natural herbs, mostly for cooking, but alas, never had the time to get into it, or the proper space!

My daughter currently is an irish dancer (Coyle school), but it is not the best of schools for public performance dancing. It has been good for learning the strict basics, as an individual, and moving up in classification though. There probably is a need for a local person to make dance dresses. Ours all come from Philadelphia or Ireland.

Welcome to the site!

So many possibilities. Camac's comment is good, and I fully agree with most of it. Can't decide if there is a god or not, since it is so illogical to fathom an explanation of who created the god, as well as "how can there be some kind of hell when a spirit wouldn't be able to feel any kind of pain or pleasure".

Many people I know swear that this earthly life actually is either hell or purgatory. I also have frequently thought that perhaps there is reincarnation, and hell is actually coming back as a human who suffers (after all there is no good explanation for why some people DO suffer so much and others luck out on everything!).

I am certain that our energy is not lost when we die and does end up somewhere else or as something else, other than that I would be just guessing as to what happens after death.

I agree with Rindy about the sadness of it all, and question the neccessity of making people so sad! The music will make you cry if it is picked well! Hate that! At one viewing / visitation I went to they were playing Elvis..that was different but liked by the deceased (when they were alive)!

I also agree with Coastman on the value of funerals as a family / friend reunion time. We used to joke in our family that funerals were the only time we all saw each other!

A hidden piper's music drifting over the burial scene does make for a goose-bump ending to a funeral...been to those kind before.

Still, for myself, I do not want to make people sad and do not agree with funerals costing so much, so cremation with no service would be fine for me!! But I would like all to have a huge drunken party at someone's house, in memory, perhaps! Maybe even annually on my death date..always good to have an excuse for a party!

I predict it will be Hillary (or Billary) against McCain for president in the end.

Obama may or may not be good, but would Americans right now elect a former Muslim (who seems to have changed religions to get into office) with a Muslim name? Questionable. I have nothing against him and he has lived the American dream, just using logic here.

McCain very quickly seems to have one foot in the grave, can barely move, and seems to be more a union leader than a President. People will notice this.

So I predict Hillary will be elected President, even though she may not be the best choice. Most people who vote for her, will do it just to get Bill back in office, in a round about way.

People vote for odd reasons, and the public is for the most part "unintelligent" about why they are voting, or simply vote on one issue, or what someone looks like, etc.
