For those Braveheart Fans out there, we have been wondering for 20 years if someone would ever produce a movie about Scotland's other greatest hero - Robert the Bruce.
Well, that time has come and it is in the form of a NetFlix original film called Outlaw King. With a 120 million dollar budget, filmed entirely in Scotland and featuring some pretty famous names (as well as some actors from Braveheart), this movie is already making headlines.
Release date is set for November 9th, 2018 on Netflix and in select theaters across the U.S. Check the first official HD Trailer:
There is already reports that this might be the first of a Trilogy as reported by The Scottish Sun. Although that might mean the story will not be complete until the third movie (think Lord of the Rings), we will take it anyways! Check out the below set picture just released.
Though I'd have rather seen a Scot play The Bruce, I'm just really hoping the history in this is true since Braveheart was so bad historically. Great movie, the history sucked.
This looks very good and I agree it would be great to see on the big screen. Historical accuracy is always a problem when it comes to movies so hopefully this won't disappoint but as prior comments indicate that in the short preview it seems to be on the right track.
Hopefully it will be a trilogy so there is more to look forward too. Hurry up November I am already excited!!!
This looks great! I was fortunate to be in school in Trim in Ireland when they were filming Braveheart and I got a part as an Extra in the execution scene at the end. Thanks to Kurt Cobain I had long hair by then so I fit in perfectly!
Sorry Mel but I did hit you with a full lettuce in the face when you were being brought to the rack!
Outlaw King is now playing on Netflix, so be sure to grab a private viewing!
So from what I understand the original movie is 4 hours long and it has been trimmed down for the Toronto Film Festival and then trimmed down again for Netflix to about 1 hour 37 minutes.
I really hope they release the full directors cut of the movie.
In other news about the movie, we heard from Tu-Bardh from Clanadonia tonight and he provided us with this link from Edinburgh Castle where they performed for the Scottish First Minister at the premier and Chris Pine. Thank you Tu-Bardh for that link!
